G'day Nomads!

My wife and I are purchasing a Jayco Starcraft "bush pack" pop-top. We haven't caravanned since the late 80's when we had an old 16" Viscount, two dogs and two kids, and spent two years around Australia, destroying an on-road van on some pretty harsh off road places! Much has changed, obviously! We have a few questions which I'm sure this vast talent pool of Nomads will be able to help us with.

1. What break controller is considered the best today? The "Elecbrakes EB2" looks great, but is it a case of being too smart, with sensitive electronics, permanently exposed to the elements?

2. What insurers do people recommend? We anticipate using our van for a few weeks at a time, and pretty much staying above Capricorn.

3. Who are recommended to talk to for tow vehicle suspension upgrades, to improve towing capacity, give a better buffer, which is currently about 400kg?

That's it for now, appreciate advice.

Kindest regards,

Sue and Geoff

Welcome to the Forum Sue & Geoff,
1. Value
2. RACQ
3. Don't. Buy suitable vehicle, even if second hand. Ensure Dexter sway control is fitted to caravan.
