According to the supplier of my new van it is mandatory if I wish to preserve the warranty to have it serviced after 3 months b y which time it will probably have done 1500 klms. Right now its probably done 700 klms and all is running well. I asked for cost and what they did and this is the reply, cost is $550 + parts. When I inquired about what they did they stated we check the following, Jockey Wheel !!?? Hitch !!??, Tyres !!?? A frame, Hubs and some miscellaneous stuff. When asked about parts they told me they strip the bearings down and things like seals are replaced at my cost plus any failed bearings. No reply in regards my asking why would bearings failing at such a minimal interval not be covered by warranty. To me this is extortion on a grand scale and caravan bearings must be the most over serviced mechanical part in the world. I am sort of thinking to ignore this service. I guess I am capable of checking the bearings my self and brakes, I have a very capable diesel mechanic friend I can call on to assist.
What have others done when faced with this ridiculous service schedule .
Hi Peter n Margaret, these guys are the manufacturer, one of the many companies ordering vans to their specs from Melbourne caravan builders. We love the van and it is well built and solid but this aspect has me questioning their ethics and integrity.
I had my aluminum tent serviced at 1000km from new build, that's it. That was the only service I had to do to keep warranty intact. I have service twice more at my expense. Read on.
That said. I had a couple of issues prior to that while at a free camp in Nth Central VIC and I insisted they come to me as what was wrong was their fault. They were in a E suburb of Melbourne. After a rather large discussion on and off over 2 days it was agreed, they would come to me. Many of the members on here that were with me at the time will back that up. They arrived and things sorted within the day. I even supplied a nice BBQ lunch.
Now! 12 months went by, and I needed something but couldn't get anyone to answer phone so as I was going that way I decided to call in and speak with them. GONE! Closed down and runaway hiding never to be seen again. I was left with 3 years left of a 4year warranty (on paper) that was not worth a sheet of toilet paper. Luckily it was not a warranty issue just something I was asking for. A couple of things have happened since and had to sort out myself. I checked the legal side of things and nothing could be done that wasn't going to cost me $$$$.
I don't pay a lot of attention to warranties much these days. I just hope if ever needed the same thing doesn't happen.
I don't believe for one minute what you have been told. What you are doing by asking on here is a good start though. Do a little more research because I think what you have been told is like my warranty and toilet paper.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

If this was not a condition of warranty and purchase before you handed over your money, they cannot subsequently change the contract conditions.
Even new car manufacturers can not insist that you use their dealer service centres.
Ask them for the service requirements (which should be included in the pre sales conditions and contract) and get it done by any competent organisation. That is your right to do.
Cheers,
Peter
