First off, better edit your question of travel so we can answer your inquiry.
Why would you go the long way around via Nyngan and Gilgandra? Cobar to Bourke is on the Kidman Way, you have already been told this is an excellent road. Bourke to Walgett is a similar road called the Kamilaroi Highway. Walgett to Moree is on the Gwydir Highway, again, similar Hwy.
Basically, you will be out in country where the rivers run very slowly. You will probably gain 100 metres of altitude between Cobar and Moree. Where are you going to find any hills along a route like that? You have not told us much about yourself. Could you please finish out your profile, when doing so, you don't need to insert your full address, just a large town or area will do.

I agree that the route via Nyngan and Gilgandra is longer than through Bourke and the route via Bourke is less hills. However, my reckonings with distances from Google is that the route via Nyngan, Nevertire, Warren, Gilgandra and then along the Newell Highway is only 4-5 km longer than the Bourke Walgett route. Unfortunately there is some hilly terrain between Gilgandra to Coonabarabran, but it has not worried me very much. I often choose the Gilgandra route because the fuel prices are often cheaper than the fuel outlets at Bourke, Walgett and others etc, unless you are hooked on the big name fuel outlets. Check diesel prices on PetrolSpy around the time of your journey.
Hi Hobie Cat Sailor. You haven't said which direction you were starting from but no worries. The road from Cobar to Bourke is good with a couple of rest stops along the way. Once in Bourke you travel east and the road is also pretty good. The alternative way is to travel to Nyngan where there is a free camp on the Bogan River or nearby there is the Riverside Caravan Park. Both good stopovers. From Nyngan head to Nevertire then on to Warren. You could either go up through Quambone where the pub has a parking stopover or travel on to Coonamble where there is showground and a good caravan park. Leave Coonamble and head to Walgett and then onto Collarenebri where there is a great free camp and then onto Moree.
The other way of Gilgandra through to Moree has a few hills but nothing too steep. The only issue is there are usually heaps of trucks belting along as this is a pretty busy transport route.

One other thing, there are heaps and heaps of wild goats all around there. They don't seem to pose much of an issue however, as they all head for the scrub whenever a car or truck approaches.
