Ross Caravan Park, Tasmania

Ross is a lovely old town in Tasmania. A nice place to visit, with the Tasmanian Wool Museum, the ruins of the old 'Female Factory' (Women convict incarceration), and lovely wide, clean laid out streets.

However. The council owned, but privately leased Ross Caravan Park, is to be avoided.

Unless you enjoy, or can easily put up with a small-minded, petty, Anal Rule Enforcing, Park Manager. She huffs and puffs and makes you move, whether or not you are already set up, change angle, points out to you where you are breaking the caravan park Rules, which, as everybody knows, have been drafted and need an Enforcer.

The park, when our confrontation took place at 7am, necessitating a pack up and couple up, to move the caravan forward by 3 meters, as we were set up in site 14, and not site 13. The park has only got four caravans in it, and no-one within cooee of us. Sites are not marked out, including a supposed 'road' included in the grass, marked only by three with dots. When asked at what time all the other bookings were arriving, necessitating our being told to move, she reverted to her Mantra of 'There are Rules, and we have to abide by the Rules.' One look at the Park handout, shows only 'You must...' and not 'Please would you...'

At my stage of life (74) I do not need to have my day upset by a peanut-brained individual, whose self worth is obviously scaffolded on her petty mindedness.

The park is advertised online, as Big Rig Friendly. NOT. On another site*, in this almost empty park, a bus RV and small trailer overlapped the length of their site by 1.5m. They were made to pay for two sites. In an empty park.

Campbell Town is close - they have a wonderful free parking RV site. Kempton is close, and even better I am told.

We will be heading there, 2 days short of our booking at Ross, whether or not she refunds our fees.
My advice, boycott this park, and visit Ross from other venues.

David and Jo Neilson

Ross CP? Horrible? Average? Good? Bad? Tidy? Unkempt? Facilities?
