Over the last few days I noticed water in the driver's side foot well of my Isuzu DMax after a moderate shower of rain. I thought I must have left the door slightly open or the window not fully up but when it happened again a few days later I feared the worst. I took the patient into a glass and windscreen repairer (who can remain anonymous) and was informed that it was a big job to test for the leak and then remove and replace the windscreen after resealing. I even got told that it was best to install a new windscreen just for good measure.
Anyway, a bloke camped not far away from me heard my tale of woe over a few beers and together we fixed the problem for less than $40. Here is how it was done;
1. Mixed up some soapy water in a spray bottle and sprayed around windscreen.
2. Purchased a small can of WD40 Compressed Air for about $20.
3. Sprayed the compressed air on the inside of the windscreen and voila, two little air bubbles appeared on the outside of the windscreen adjacent to the rubber seal.
4. Purchased a tube of Permatex Flowable Silicon for windscreens for $15 from Repco and laid a bead of silicon around and over the problem spot and a further couple of inches either side. This stuff runs into the holes and sets in about one hour and fully cures in 24 hours. It does not set hard but remains flexible so shouldn't crack with ordinary stresses or sun and cold.
Last night it hammered down with rain and this morning I checked and not a drop inside.
All up less than $40 plus a few beers for my new best friend.
Hope this helps others that may encounter a similar problem.
