Gotta have rocks in my head staying at Halls Creek & Fitzroy Crossing?

What's the general consensus about staying in motel at Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing? Some online info suggests it's not safe to stay but got to stay somewhere when travelling from Kununurra to Broome and not able to free camp.

The Fitzroy River lodge is the place to stay. A Google search will give you all the info you need. I have stayed there many times.

Regards.

Lock up everything, leave nothing in sight in locked vehicles, use a motion sensor light all sides of van.

A little off track but re "hide keys" I have several mates in the police force and they all recommend not hiding keys away particularly in the case of "home invasion".
They suggest you leave the keys on the kitchen bench along with an old wallet with a few dollars in it and a number of expired credit cards. They say this is better than waking up with a knife at your throat demanding car keys.

That's a good piece of advice. I like it. I will pass it on to my Daughter who lives in Broome.

Cheers, Hetho.

That is actually a brilliant piece of advice.

I have a friend in Dubbo who lives in fear every day.
Scared of when her turn at a home invasion will come about.
I will pass that bit of advice on and do exactly that myself.
The escalating crime rates with these lawless juveniles and others is getting scary.

I saw on "Insiders" today one of the whinging brigade going off about changing bail laws etc and high incarceration rates.
He had me swearing at the TV, if they don't break the law, they don't go to jail - Simples.

It is alright for some, try being on the other side of the ledger - a victim.
Then the agenda changes markedly.

Totally agree. I always leave my keys on the bench. I tell all my family better to have gear stolen as it's insured and at the end of the day not worth being beaten protecting it.  Praying we will be blessed with safe journey.  So disappointing that Aussie travel is so risky.  what happened to Australian being the "lucky country".

I'm considering driving into Bungle Bungles and paying exorbitant accommodation price because they can name their price, hoping mum will be able to see a little of bungles to make the rough 2.5hr journey worthwhile and me walk to Cathedral gorge, then risk staying at Halls Creek. The only issue is it.s 2.5hr out and we would still need to drive to Derby.

Lock your place up with secure hardware. Thats simple!

If they want to break in you'll certainly hear them coming.

They are only opportunists, not interested in you Engel, might take the food. You should have something like a bike lock on it anyway. if you have loose stuff take that inside. Halls Creek motel is very good been refurbished and has a good restaurant.

I have put a security chain on my van door which I give a half twist and hang a fishing rod bell on. Thinking about modifying it this year and using one of those personal alarms that You pull the pin out of to set them off, so opening the door pulls the pin.

GREAT IDEA

I put a lockable safety chain on my Westport entry door, along with the fishing rod bell, about a decade ago.

The beauty of this is that you can go off for a whiz or whatever in the middle of the night with the child bride sleeping in safety behind the safety chain lock and when you return use the chain lock key to get back in without waking her up ... except for the tinkle of the bell perhaps.  In case of emergency she is not locked in and can get out.  (Of course I usually use the en-suite loo)

Almost forgot .. I also slide the awning pull down rod across the inside of the door, held in place by the interior door handle.  Just like the old fashioned castle door bars.

A bit like Fort Knox I suppose LOL.  But that's me.

The normal door locks are easy to force or get keys for, but the lockable safety chains are relatively rare and can be quite secure if fitted correctly.  The rod gives extra security & you can hear the bell if anyone is trying to get in. Or it might turn them away to an easier target.  Hopefully.  Sorry folks.

BTW... we sleep behind closed and locked windows with the small roof vents open if required.  12v fans blowing on the bed keep us cool.

Windows always locked when we are absent.

I have been known to leave a movement sensing alarm/light in the annex area.

I fitted a lid padlock to the Engel which is chained to the van suspension.

The Patrol is never left connected to the van and the trailer hitch lock fitted with the chains looped onto the padlock.

It becomes an automatic process to set it up at every stop/evening.

BTW all this done in Caravan Parks as we rarely bush camp.

Re Lockable security chain ...

I have not got a link ... picked it up at Bunnings (of course) in about 2015 for less than $20 I think.

I have attached a photo that I took in 2016.

Normally the door safety chains are used so that the slide part is on the door and fixed (or in this case locked) end is on the static door frame. In Cupie s case, the slide part is on the static part of the wall near the door and the locked end of the chain is attached to the movable door.  It would okay.  Hard to fully open the door outwards without causing damage or cutting the chain which can be accessed if the door is open.

I see the system allows the chain to be removed from the lock mounting if desired.   The old door safety chains had that respective end bolted or riveted into its mounting.  Cupie can lock and unlock the safety chain by reaching in through the slightly open door to enable his quiet nighttime journeys out of the van.

Edit: I am still annoyed that apostrophes do not show on my posts.

Yep.  Just using my iPad, without any special turn-ons, for most of my posts.  I can suck up my annoyance. I cannot be bothered with too much adjustments of any matters from the norm.
