Are you dead?

https://www.dexerto.com/tech/are-you-dead-app-designed-for-people-living-alone-surges-to-number-1-in-china-3303478/

A new paid app called "Are You Dead?" or "Dead Yet?" has surged to the top of China's charts, targeted at young people living alone in major cities, who fear dying without anyone realizing.

Launched in May 2025, the app requires users to check in every two days by tapping a large on-screen button to confirm they are alive. If they fail to do so, the app automatically alerts a chosen emergency contact that something may be wrong.

Reminds me of medical alert systems for oldies who wore and still wear a wireless remote that they could press to get assistance in case they had a fall or needed help. My Apple Watch does this for me automatically.

Those systems were around 50+ years ago.

SHE was the woman who Sydney forgot. Natalie Jean Wood died alone in her Surry Hills flat. Nobody noticed for eight years.

People die in their sleep. Hopefully, that's the way I'll go.

Went to a funeral recently.

An old mate had died in his sleep.
Some mentioned it as a "silent heart attack".
When I read up on it, not having heard the term, the description indicated something slightly different to what was mentioned.

His son played R.L. for Australia and figured prominently in a Grand Final many years ago.
Our mate was also a talented sportsperson himself and very fit.

From reports he usually rose early and made his wife a cup of tea, but this morning he was still there and when she woke and touched him he had passed on.
I have wondered since just how much the person who suffers that night time heart attack experiences?

I guess only a doctor or an autopsy could figure this out?

A nurse posted this on a thread, was interesting :

"If youre already sleeping when your heart stops, you would essentially sleep through that brief moment of suffering you might experience when awake".

If it's any help:

Some time past I heard an interview with Gore Vidal, an American intellectual. He was asked what were his thoughts about death, his reply: "I have no concern at all... it'll be just like it was before I was born."

I found that logical thought reassuring.
