Once again, a couple from down south has fallen victim to local car thieves. This couple came to watch the State of Origin & by not taking adequate care with their keys & handbag they have "donated" their nice red pride & joy (a late model Holden ute) to the joy riders that this city has in abundance.
They are now tasked with the effort of getting their caravan back home.
I said this before, but if any of our members (or their friends) are coming to Townsville (the weather is perfect at the moment, but is going to be a bit chilly tonight), please ensure your car & van are locked as secure as possible & your keys aren't left on the table or some other easy spot that someone of ill-repute can grab. According to the news report, the couple were asleep in the van at the time.
Happy & safe travels everyone.

Doesn't matter where you are camped, just lock the door and put small valuables out of sight. Its basic common sense, I don't leave my house unlocked in Melbourne while I'm sleeping either.
Hi Meredith,
I agree. The report said they were sound sleepers - I too wondered whether someone forgot to lock the door. However, the car would have been like a honey pot drawing ants to a feast.
Another couple of cars went last night, including a red Jeep that was uninsured, owned by some battlers who have a child with Sepsis. The man left it running (I assume) while he ducked inside for a couple of minutes to get something. Result it was totally smashed up by our "Grubs" as the coppers call them.
No-one can take risks with their cars here in Townsville.
Hopefully any potential thieves can read (if they bothered to go to school) my immobilizer notice on the dash
