Labelled "Caravan chemicals" - " the surge in caravan & camper usage within Australia could place extra pressure on regional wastewater treatment systems because of the chemicals commonly used in caravan & camper toilet systems according to new research. Flinders University researchers found that most travelers regularly used chemical toilet additives to control odors & improve hygiene. The most commonly used products contained bronopol, a disinfecting chemical that breaks down into formaldehyde."
Perhaps these researchers should get out from behind their desks & see the alternative that is left alongside our highways & national parks - crap that's not buried & paper that's left to blow around!!
Not everyone can afford to install the new Composting Toilets!

There is no need to use these bad chemicals in any toilet. They should be banned.
Don't blame the researchers, they are quite correct.
Use sodium percarbonate (the active ingredient in "Nappysan) for an environment and septic safe alternative that is also cheaper.

We have been using sodium permanganate for over 20 years without any detrimental effects to our Thetford systems.
Additives and sachets from caravan accessory places cost a lot of money and contain known carcinogens. They even suggest mixing it with water, which literally fills the cassette sooner, so they sell more additive.
