Safety at roadside camps

Getting ready to drive adelaide, Coolgardie, Yanchep, Broome, Tennant Creek, Mt Isa, Roma, Toowomba hence into Brisbane by myself. Family members are concerned about safety at free roadside camps. Has anyone had trouble at any on the abouve route? Any hints, advice will be appreciated.
