Roofrack for 200 cruiser

Hi We just bought a new 200 series cruiser, our second one, we want to fit a roofrack. we have decided on a fullsize aluminium. The question is : do we fit it close to the roof, or have it up on longer feet? we're thinking ease of cleaning the roof. What are some of your thoughts please. Cheers, Hans and Judy
