Driving on a vacation in Spain

Hi everybody, Me and my wife are travelling to Spain for a vacation next month. We would love to rent a car for a week, so can anyone tell me do we need to ask for some kind of a permit, or can we just sit in the car and drive with our Australian driving licence? Thanks.
