I am in newbie and just joined the site, I am buying my first van and looking to travel and live in it with my partner doing a lot of non caravan park stuff
While I can calculate water weight and so forth I don't know how much stuff most people carry I'll have 180kg water 2 9kg gas bottles 2 golf clubs about 11kg each 2x 120 watt solar panels (no idea of weight) and an extra 100 amp battery and 2 bikes. I'm at about 250kg without the solar panels will I get away with the what seems to be standard 400kg pay load once I add cloths food etc. have I missed something obvious. I know it is a how long is a piece of string question but there seems to be lot of experience in this forum from what I have read so far, any ideas would be appreciated.
400kg payload that many vans offer really isn't feasible for most people in a van with shower and added solar etc. We have 600kg which by the time we allow for water and gas bottles filled gives us 400kg, and I feel thats a reasonable amount. If you are buying a new van be aware that many van makers will increase the ATM and therefore payload of vans for you, you then just have to be sure that you are still keeping within your vehicles towing capacity.
G'day Not so grey Nomads and welcome to the forum. Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit. Sounds like the earlier respondents have answered your questions.
