I am in the process of buying an 18FT Jaco Pop Top Van, duel axle. I drive a Falcon AUIII Futura Sedan. Is this vehicle suitable for towing the Jaco? Any advice?
Hope this information is still relevant to you, but I tow a 17'6" Paramount Caravan behind a 2001 AU11 Falcon 6 cyl sedan auto. I have travelled over 18000 klms in the past 2.5 years with absolutely no problem. The van weighs approx 1750 kgs when fully loaded as I have shower & toilet and it carries 120ltrs of water as well. I have fitted a transmission cooler, heavier springs and HD shockies on the rear and that is it. You will have no problem towing your Jayco. Happy travelling.
Hi Ron, I believe the Falcon is about the best sedan there is for towing. I towed one of those wind-up campervans weighing about 900 kilos with a fifteen year old XD Falcon some years back, from Brisbane to Darwin, to Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Kings Canyon, down to Port Augusta, then across through Broken Hill and back home. We never had a spot of bother. What interested me was that we found that most of the vans being towed by conventional sedans, were with Falcon, (although most of them were newer than ours). We later bought one of the first AU's off the assembly line, did about 115,000 klms, towed a sixteen foot viscount pop-top up to Cairns and back, as well as other shorter trips, and never had a problem. We always have our vehicle checked over by our local mechanic before embarking on any long trip, keep the maintenance up and drive steadily. Incidentally, check your owners manual or with the Ford people about the maximum speed allowed when towing,as this can affect the warranty. Hope this is of some assistance, cheers, Davo.
