getting rid of that 'new' smell

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get rid of that 'new' smell in a new caravan? We've had an email from a couple who are not just finding the smell unpleasant but they are also worried that it may spark allergic reactions.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

our new van had that new smell but not to the extent of being unpleasant. We found having used it within days of getting it  afew months back and also airing it well that the majority of smell was gone in a few weeks.

I can remember my ole mum having an allergic reaction with new carpet and lounge suite.
The only way she found to neutralize the odour was by using  fresh quinces in a couple of places around the room, and also saucers of baking soda powder.   It also works in little used refrigerators.

I have used the same idea all these years later in my river holiday shack to  rid it of the musty closed odour.

Hope it works for you too.

regards  Dennis
