hiring a campervan

We are thinking of hiring a campervan next Feb, starting from Perth. We are not doing a really long trip just 2 or 3 weeks to explore parts of Western Australia -  our son lives in KL and we intend to 'do' areas of Oz over the next few years as extensions of visits to him. So, we are not buying but would like to hire instead.
Our problem is choosing the right company - there are so many! Does anyone out there know of a small hire business with a good reputation? We are keen to avoid the bigger international companies.
The alternative might be to hire a car and find self catering places along the way, but I don't suppose that's in the spirit of nomads is it?

Think carefully about where you want to go too Lill.
There is lots of great spots in WA that are "off the beaten track", and that might influence what type of vehicle you hire, and where the hire company will let you take it, and how 'self contained' you want to be.
Have fun exploring, there is lots to see and do.

Cheers,
Peter.
