Do you think it advisable to join the various park's memberships? Does the 10% discount really mount up to much? We will also throw in quite a bit of free camp sites to keep costs down. Also which are the best caravanning travel guides to purchase?

I agree with Rocan, it is probably cheaper to stay in other van parks which do not have membership schemes and may not boast the two pools, games rooms, flash camp kitchens, TV areas, etc., etc that most of those kinds of parks do have. However, we did meet some people on the road who were members of the schemes and felt that you always knew what kind of standard you would be getting when you stayed at those parks. It really depends on what you're looking for - but for us it wasn't worth it.
PS - In terms of guidebooks, we liked Cathy Savage and Craig Lewis's 'Camping in Australia' book.
I guess it depends what you want. I am a Big4 and Top Tourist member and if you do a bit of traveling it does work out cheaper. If you are just an occasional user then it's like all loyalty shemes, a waste of time.... When I get the new van with all facfilities on board I will relinquish my membership as I will not need 4*+ facilities.....And I'll have <<<<< Her Masters Voice with me I'll be picking Van parks from http://www.k9.bounceme.net/ and they are not Big4....
