Setting up Portable Sat Gear

Hello everyone,
We've had an email from a couple who have purchased a Sat dish from ebay and are having lots of trouble trying to set it up.  They are hoping someone out there knows the protocol to setting up for the reception of imparja and southern cross television programs.  Apparently, they faxed off the necessary forms to ACMA and in reply, received more forms to fill in about signal strength and also asking for the installer's registration numbers.
Does anyone have any expertise with this?  Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

I owned a portable Sat TV setup and it was frankly more strife than it was worth. Brilliant reception just a pain to set up. Mine had a card that had to be "activated" every time you moved  a few hundred Km by dialing a 1800 number, no mobile coverage, no activation and activation was not insantaneous.
I'm not sure about the Installers numbers, they may have bought a system for permanent insatllation....
I do have a U Beaut piece of software somewhere that helps you line up your dish....

the problem was not setting the gear up, I downloaded a program called gorbtrack and that sorted out the sat position wherever you are, the trouble came when I was trying to activate imparja and 7 central, the form work that returned in the mail, after I faxed off the required paperwork was to say the least absolutely horrendous, I refired another email to imparja and this time I "think" I have the program, I will retry , and retry again, but initial setup of this system was a bit tricky, particularly when the onscreen instructions were in spanishconfused

Dave let me know how you go. Could you not set it up to and english display? You should have got Manuel to do it, he comes from Barcelona....
It will be interesting to see if you have to go through that rigmorole everytime you want to set it up. Mine was a true pain, and there was some sort of bar on the card that stopped you using it if there was conventional TV coverage....
I think it depends on the system that you buy.
I had trouble selling mine because I live in Canberra and get conventional signal and could not demonstrate the system apart from the test card.
You are aiming for the Optus C2 sattelite?

the problem is not setting it up ( except initially I.E. when I first bought the system, the onscreen menu, which guides one through the setup process was in some foriegn language) after wading through all the documents and pressing every button on the remote and jumping up and down and threatening to throw it in the creek a few times, I finally got the language changed, the next step was to find the sat, then I had all the settings wrong. but anyway thats a diferent story, to set it up now takes about 10 minutes and one has a picture, abc or sbs or something similar to get the decent ones I.E. imparja or seven central, one has to fax or ring and get authorisation for them and prove that one is in the outback or they wont let one play with them, I did all that was required and they sent me back an authorisation formwork that would choke a dingo to retransmit the aforementioned stations, I then emailed the stations direct ( one cant just ring, one must go on queue then they may or may not ring back, then the little girl on the end of the line ( barely twelve by the sound of her, isnt proficient in your exact problem, to solve it one must contact ones distributer) I got an answer back through email, god bless it, that made me basically swear that I was going to be where I stated that I was going to be, god forbid we should get decent telly when we arent entitled to it, then who would pay the station owners,I havent as yet retried to get a signal because basically after 4 days of buggerising around I am sick and tired of "fiddling" with it, and really couldnt give a toss if I see an advert for pert or whatever else they are trying to sell today, the fire doesnt give me half as much grief and the whisky and coke makes it so I couldnt care a damn about politics or whos murdering who back home. beer o'clock just comes a little earlier. anyway to all you fellers that have a good working sat system, good on ya, me the fires just fine, and besides I get to talk to my wife again (god help Me)

Dave, yeah... As I said thats why I got rid of mine, we play mixed nude doubles scrabble or similar if we can't get TV....
I just get so infuriated when you phone on a mobile to get assistance and some pimply faced tosser gets on the line and has not got a clue what their job is and put's you on hold while they "phone a friend" to ask them what you should do....
A mate of mine bought one of the systems advertised in popular Vanning Mags and it does work a treat but he does not have a card but before he goes away he has to "reboot" some software in the reciever from his computer, it did cost him $1500 though.

just thought you may like to know, I recieved confirmation on imparja and seven central, aparently the infamous formwork was a mistake on their behalf, I now enjoy all channels in the red centre, with a five minute setup, now that I have the onscreen manual in english
