has anyone taken the ferry acrross to tassie lately, there used to be a camp spot (or at least one was allowed to sleep) at or near the car parking area, is that still allowed or does one stay at bacchus marsh (55kms away) and travel in

I think the area to which you refer Dave was " re educated" in the name of "Docklands Redevelopement".... That was all part of the "great enlightenment" of Melbourne. They even took the trolley poles of the trams and put pantographs on.... There are some "overnight car parks" around St Kilda near the Redeveloped sea baths (signposted "parking must not exceed 24 hours") where you can stay overnight if you don't try and set up camp. A walk over to the cake shops in Acland St is also worthwhile, get some gingerbread to quell the tummy while crossing... Just be cautious about venturing into Carlisle st and Fitzroy st as you may be accosted by females of "negotiable affections" & that can be particularly embarrasing if you are with your better half and you are adressed by name....

o.k. thanks for the info, my learned friend from another area is out of date, (as are we all) not you bas, I speak of Humphrey from geelong yeh you, I know you are reading this, you still owe me a beer and a chop, the reason I stated Bacchus marsh is because that is the way we will be coming, plus there is a free camp not far from there, and it is an easy 55 km run, how did you find the traffic getting to the docks, I will be coming along the m80 on to the m1 exiting on the williamstown road on to the docklands, does this sound good or should I just let nagging nancy (our g.p.s.) guide us through, cities are not my forte and I avoid them like the plague but little blue said she didnt want to swim all the way to tassie so the ferry is the next thing, not flying again, scared the bejabbers out of me last time, thinking about taking the cmca special half price offer next year, but also want to go to uluru again as well, so many places so little money so little time, oh well have to save a bit I guess
