My personal choice would be a generator....Your true question I suspect will turn out to be "How do I get reception".. You will hear stories of generators blowing up tv's etc but the vast majority of TV's have an inbuilt power "conditioner" that will stop surges and correct the Hertz thing as well.... But remember if you are in a remote area the power supply does not guarantee a signal...

Basil, I have, with great pride, just attained my "leave no trace" acreditation, I'm afraid that I am and have always been a "bloody greeny" I will always procrastinate about leaving nothing but footprints and taking nothing but photos and memorys, I leave the camp as good as or better than I found it, I just so happen to think that there is a place for gennies but the peace and tranquility of the camp is not it, for much the same price of a good gennie one can set their vehicle up with clean green alternatives that dont impact on anyone else, all it takes is a little knowledge and that is absolutely everywhere, I'm sorry, come and have a beer with me, dont sulk in the corner meet me at a camp sometime

Thankfully generators in Victoria on public lands (state forests etc) will soon be outlawed like national parks. Looks like dogs will be on the list as well. The sooner this happens the better and hopefully other states will soon follow.

Live life to the fullest as you have no idea how long you are going to be here to enjoy the greatest country on earth.
what is your problem. live and let live especially when get to old age. enjoy what you have and dont worry about what other people are doing. We all die soon or later.
Hmm!!!! that is my point exactly. "live and let live" that statement tells me, as it should to you, to leave others alone I.E. dont disturb others, live your life and let others live theirs, I dont see why in this day and age there are so many people wanting to take so much with them, if you have a secondary battery and a small deployable solar panel then you dont need a gennie, as for, oh dear oh dear they are old and they need it, well arent we all, there are days when I cant move without extreme pain until well after lunch, if you need that much power all the time then take your bloody van and all its luxurys to a caravan park, leave the free camping to the free campers, take your five star unit somewhere else or blend in with the rest of us, I agree 100% with outback, one day gennies will be banned all over, the other statement relates to a typical city dweller "dont worry about what other people are doing", I keep an eye (as do my friends at free camps) on my neighbors (1) safety of belongings (2) if they need anything from the shop if I am going (3) general well being, we are always chatting about the weather and each others ills and doing what we can to help each other, yes we all die sometime, some die old bitter and lonely, others die with a lot of friends and a memory of a good life full of joy, not bickering with everybody else over trivial things, set up your camp so as to not disturb others and we will all get along marvelously, think about it, its not hard to be a good neighbor
