I live in Canberra. We have 4 seasons here. I've lived here since 1979.....Do I like it here?? sorry no, I'd prefer to live on the coast, near a beach (free) unfortunatley the cost has me snookered. Seriously Canberra was a great place to bring up kids, all amenities were available, plenty of "green space", now it's just like any other city except we are still debating the delicate issue of public transport and trams are back on the adgenda, but it is an election year. Used to be a bit sterile but now we have all manner of nutters available for social discourse...

Ahhhhhh! I see with this one mayhap you are getting too personal, I live in sunny Port Pirie, home of the largest lead smelter in the world, beutifull one day perfect the rest, more sun than the sunshine state, more hot air than canberra, gateway to the most scenic areas in australia, and home to the best people in the world, winter mild, spring absolutely to die for, summer stinking bloody hot, autumn cant describe how good that is, fantastic spot, on the foothills of the great flinders ranges, Oh forgot to mention the fantastic fishing, schnapper 6' long, whiting 3' long and jumping in the boat, fantastic people, so why am I selling up I hear you ask, because I am not going to die here

I live in Port Macquarie NSW you can look it up in the atlas under Gods Country . They reckon QLD has it all but they obviously haven't been to PMQ . Beach , Rock and River Fresh and Salt fishing on tap all year forest drives at the back door .
But! and there is always a But the cost of fuel is always around 10 - 15 cents P/L dearer than 10 k down the highway and no one can explain why, been like that for the twenty years I've been here .
Had about a week of cold mornings this year but just stay in the cot a little longer until it warms up, works for me .
My job gave me the opportunity to travel the world many times over and I have come to one conclusion "no matter where you are in Australia you have to feel like you are a lottery winner"
There is no other place I can name in the world where you can just pull up on a river bank or road side camp and with minimum security feel safe in doing so.
Peter Allen had it right, there's no place like home and Australia is MINE

Living in Singleton, Hunter Valley. While it may look rural, picturesque, scenic, all those things, it's actually riddled with coal dust. Plays hell with the lungs. Makes my motorhome filthy. Having said that, if you're in the area, Hunter Valley Gardens at Pokolbin is a wonderful place to go and see. Also not too far from beaches and the fleshpots of Newcastle, if you're into that sort of thing.

We live in Mount Gambier, South Australia. It has reputation of being cold, but no worse than anywhere else. Famous for Blue Lake. City becoming very popular for those wishing to escape the capital cities. Have own water supply and havent been affected by drought. Good shopping, facilities etc. Large pine forest industry, best crayfish in Australia, big dairy farms, sheep cattle wine growing etc. Great place to live. Only 4-5 hours to either Melbourne or Adelaide.

Where are you living in Singleton? I grew up there many long years ago. Was back there recently to have a look around.

We live in Port Noarlunga, about 30K's south of Adelaide. beautiful spot to live, close enough to get to work easily, 10 minutes from Maclaren Vale, home to some of the best wines in Australia. Beach, river, cafes, its got everything.
Hi Dick I live in Singleton Heights with one of my daughters. I also have 3 children living in or near Newcastle (Cardiff, Mayfield and Medowie) and one in Sydney. I emigrated from Wales, have spent most of my adult life in Gunnedah and Tamworth. Don't get me wrong, I like Singleton, it's a nice size town to live in and it's handy to be close to the wineries! Just that this is my first winter in NSW for a few years, and I've really suffered, both from the cold, and the coal dust. Definitely won't be here for next winter - will head north about March, I reckon.

Basil...was that log on the beach disguised as two white pointers with puppy dog noses...ha ha ha ..can imagine the scream with your cold nose.
I too came from Wales and have lived most of the last 35 years in Tamworth. I wonder if we know each other.
for all the other nomads, Tamworth is a great place to visit with beautiful places to go for day trips. the country music festival is a sight to behold, and I think everyone should visit at least once, even if you're not a country music fan, there are plenty of other activities and events to enjoy. Hope we get to meet one day.
I live in Rocky (Rockhampton Qld) - previously Kakadu, Darwin, Adelaide, and Alice Springs. Had some side shorts stays elsewhere. I have not found a place in Aussie that is not interesting, except the major centre's - where they are ok to visit ONCE.
As for climate - you get used to it, no matter where you live.
We (Grey Nomads) have an opportunity, to use the Country, to suit are preference - like it warm, and live South - head North for winter, etc
Just get out and have a look - spend time (which we have), but always never to forget - it is not the destination - its the journey
