Stickers

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the post. Yes, grey nomad stickers for vehicles and the like is something that has been on our minds. We are currently getting a logo and 'a look' worked out and hope to have something produced before too long. We'll keep you posted. Apologies to everybody for neglecting the site for a while. We have been doing a lot of hard travelling over the past few weeks. We should be settled in to a nice winter 'bolthole' shortly and can devote a lot more time and energy to keeping the site moving. Thanks for the interest. Happy trails.

The above post is dated 2005,does anyone know if anything came fom it?
If enough people are interested I can look into getting stickers made up,need about 200 to make it viable.

How about we have a compitition to come up with a design.

I am keen on doing some designs if this is something people are interested in.  I have been wondering about stickers for the Grey Nomads myself so that there is an easy way to recognise each other on the road.

How will this work?  Will a thread be set up for this purpose?

My website address is www.fwillustrations.com if anyone is interested in seeing some of my work.

Regards
Valderi

I saw a "Grey Nomads" sticker on a Mobile home somewhere, and when I chatted to the occupant about it, she said it was a British club to which she belonged, and they were travelling world-wide!
Maybe somebidy else has beaten us to it! I wonder if there is a copy-right issue here? It would be easy to change it to Aussie Grey Nomads!
Yes I'd love to wear a sticker and make myself known to others...put me down for 2 (1 for the Prado, 1 for the Camper-trailer)

If the name Grey Nomads is not available we could always be known as the
Silver Haired Itinerate Travellers
or S.H.I.T.S for short

You were waiting for my response wern't you???
Ok well simply put you can call yourself what you want as long as the words are not a registered TRADE MARK. I would however suggest something along the lines of Grey Nomads Down Under, GN of AU or whatever just not Grey Nomads simply because if this takes off you would not be able to register Grey Nomads as a trade mark. By the way I think stickers are a fantastic idea it's just all those years of training have taught me to be on the watch for pitfalls. The other "little" problem that may raise its head is that if you were to ever get together and there was an accident then someone may choose to sue for recompense and each and every one of us would be liable to cough up if the guilty party had no insurance, i.e. if it could be shown we were a "Club" that was not incorporated we could get into strife. It has happened before.
So...... To become an incorporated body is a true PITA, not the proceedure itself that is straight forward; its the requirements, you have to have a committee, hold meetings, have a consitution, abide by numerous rules and regulations and you have to submit an annual financial statement et cetera.
Sooooooo what I would propose is this. That this forum change it's name to whatever we agree on or is desired but the URL would be along the lines of AGN.activeboard.com instead of http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=51933&p=41&topicID=20494489 This can be done fairly simply by our devout administrator (who by now may be regretting ever allowing me onto the forum). Then we are all greynomads belonging to this forum and our stickers read in nice easily read characters around an Aussie flag or whatever waffle waffle waffel, bla bla blah.... AGN.activeboard.com We would not be a club as such simply a group of peaple "advertising" a website.....
Personally I would see this as a sensible approach, if you incorporate then the "club" has to have money, we loose our "fun Factor" AS EVERYONE GETS COERCED INTO RAISING MONEY... At about that Time I walk away because I'm enjoying myself here as things stand....
As to the stickers I think they would bhe a great idea, I used to make stickers for veterans with service ribbons on them then I thought lets go upmarket and we should have enameled brass badges for our vehicles and thats when it all went down the gurgler as it was going to cost big $$$$$...
Sooooooo can I self elect myself to liase with Valderi and our hosts and see what we can do and in the meantime can the rest of you give some thought to a name.... As much as I like S.H.I.T. Believe it or not the Southern Highlands institute of Technology has beaten you to it and as I am a Caring Understanding Nineties Type you can see that acronyms tend to draw the crabs (and idiots) so we would have to be carefull in that respect.
Now back into my corner....

yeh, what he said!!!!, I like it informal just as it is as well, when it comes to a "club" I tend to drop out, I like the grey nomads down under, if the term grey nomads have been taken, but whatever Basil suggests is fine with me, I like the idea of a recognisable sticker or something, but no club as such for me

Basil,

You brought up some excellent points as I too had wondered about copyright and registered trade marks.  I agree with the others the whole 'club' thing is over the top and sounds like far too much work so any way we can get around that sounds good.

I am more than happy to contribute designs for the sticker project, please feel free to contact me if our hosts are up for it.

Thanks again for the valuable input.

Best regards
Valderi

Can it be as something simple such as the top banner on the home page:

That way we aren't promoting a club as such but we would all reconise it for what it is.

Hi Everyone,
Many thanks for all your interest in having stickers, it's a great idea.  We'll organise the design, get them printed and will let everyone know when they are available.  Probably the best way around all the conflicting issues is to take on Gary and Kerry's idea of using the website address: www.thegreynomads.com.au. Fingers crossed, we should have something for you in the next few weeks.

what about F.A.R.T.S, fastidious and relentless travelling society, but I still like "the australian grey nomads" with the website printed down the bottom in smaller writing, and perhaps a vehicle/van piccy in the middle, surely no-one else has that, seen one that read, S.K.I. , stands for spending the kids inheritance

I have a lock of Nelson's hair if that would suffice as a logo, very definatley GREY.....Anything except something kitch would work, take a look at the CWA Logo. A nicer bunch of very organised Grey types you will never find and they have had a makeover with a rather neat, crisp logo. (not that I'm suggesting we rip theirs off). GIVEN THAT WE MAY BE A BUNCH OF DITHERERS, lets not let everyone else in on the joke....

Maybe we go green and gold or has that been done to death?
Circular stickers are better in as much as they don't have corners to come up and peel off or eliptical would be nice.
A sprig of Wattle perhaps? 2 nude grey nomads running along cable beach in silouette?
Whatever is used it needs to be easily read at a distance on the back of a moving vehicle - travelling at 60 in a 110 zone....

I came to this site, and immediately saw the potential of it to cluster like minds - older Aussies looking to have some fun, and enjoy the later part of their lives.

I was amazed to see that the group did not have this, easy recognised "group certificate".

I believe, the Webmaster should have this as part of the site, and collect any revenue from its sale. They have cost to cover. Bottom line, if it is not done, it will be, by others.

My suggestions are as follows

It needs to be an emblem, not a picture, or words
I agree with Basil, a elliptic sticker - but issued annual, with a colour change
A metal copy of same, should be made - for members - collector's item
One last part - the sticker could be adjusted for "Parks or Stays" - to identify good places - ie this park/site is GreyNomad friendly - issued by the webmaster after suitable response from members

Lastly, I suggest that the challenge is put to all and sundry, to come up with a design, and voted on here - basically get it right first time, as it should not need to be changed. Get as many idea's and views as possible
