Another exciting event this weekend with the return of historic racing cars and motorbikes to the Lobethal (Adelaide Hills) old Grand Prix track and bringing back some nostalgia of them glory days. Veteran flag man Glen Dix will wave off the first car for the two day carnival of 87 vetaran / vintage cars as well as 35 motorbikes and the event run by 200 volunteers. A 14 km circuit with numerous vantage points around this course run on the areas main roads with an expected 10,000 spectators...me being one of them. Such a pity that it hasn't had the media coverage to promote it, as the volunteers have placed many hard hours over the last few years in producing this event. Admission is Free......Parking is $10.00....
Hey ! what a super weekend of nostalgia.......a huge gathering on both days of awell behaved petrol heads..yep! I was one of them.
That old 14 km Grand Prix track throbbed with the sound of many old machines as they did a very spirited demonstration..so much so that even a few cows looked up from eating and chewed their cud, but the sheep..they hightailed it to the furthest part of the paddock.
There are plans by the volunteer committee to run this as an annual event to coincide with our now famous Bay to Birdwood vintage vehicle rally..which is the largest / longest procession of old clangers and bangers polished to perfection in the world. A must view event on your travelling calendar.
ahhhh!! the bay to birdwood what a day, fantastic recreation of an era past, the adelaide hills has it all, the last time we were there it was a classic hills racing event with porches and lamborghinis roaring through the hills, we were at the lookout at mount lofty having a cuppa in the cafe just listening, great day
