A hand raise from the back of the class, its the pimple faced kid
Mr Basil
I understand that outback dunnies have been known to "blow up". I was told it was the methane gas build up.
My question is, if I "put a det" in it, can I make the whole **** bang thing go wild
Yep, have you not heard of the debacle in Melbourne where they have built a housing estate over a still decomposing garbage dump and the Methane is seeping into the homes with the risk of explosion if there was an arc at a power switch..... For your own amusement try this, find one of these new "composting" public conveniences at the road side rest areas, find an opening on the exterior, wait till some poor unsuspecting person is using said toot then sureptitiously introduce a lit match through the hole you have discovered on the outside, listen for the CARRRRRUMP as the Methane burns off scaring the bejesus out of the user.... Happy to assist with your representation in Court should the person with the singed bum take action.... There are some very green installations that power houses using the methane gathered from decomposing wastes, there was a few recently shown on TV, looked simple and practicle, but it would never catch on as the Govt can't as yet work out how to "Tax" it.... Now here's an idea, a device to capture the methane from your portta potti and keep it in some sort of bladder rather than just escaping to atmosphere and use the Methane for cooking, I like it.... must fire up my CAD program to get some sketches to the Patent Office....

we use odour b gone it is very good better than the thelford chemicals and does not allow fungus to grow in the water tank make sure you use it in both tanks less chance of spillage as it is dry blocks easy to carry
Yep get it here; http://www.odour-b-gone.com.au/product.htm do not confuse with Odor B Gone which is a spray for animal toilet smells....Looks the goods though I'll try it when my Portasol liquid rens out.

But Mr Basil You mentioned that the "mixture" converts into ammonium nitrate. I was wondering, given that we have methane present as well, with a det, we could make an outhouse hole big enough for a small town.
Mind you, I would not want to be within the fall out zone - nor get caught - any suggestion for not getting caught?

But unless there is a "primer" present you would just get a Carrrrrrrrrrrrump because the methane would only burn. If you want to use ammonium nitrate and diesel as a "cratering" charge you have to actually use a small amount of explosive to get things rolling and the charge has to be confined to get the "big Bang" you seem so desperate to have.... Now having discussed this we will have ASIO and men in 3 piece suits in the middle of summer looking at this site, I hope they realise we are only talking in jest......

now Basil you have used four words that are "red flagged" by a.s.i.o. and we dont want their attention do we, stop frightening the kiddies, we tried, years ago to get one of these loos to go up but it just wont happen unless you block the breather off (the big pipe thingy at the back), if one did block the breather off the first thing that one would notice is the absolute foul stench, (methane) thats when they are dangerous, I for one could not approach the damn thing then neverlone chuck a match in, I havent seen a "long drop" in ages most now are composting toilets or at least they are over here, so ashely it is safe to use the toilets the boogy mans have all gone, and yes the "bush" is far more dangerous with the drop bears and yowies as well as bunyips and man eating caterpillers abounding

Back to the original thread, I have seen advocated, and will be trying generic brand nappysan type products.
Woolies and Coles have their own versions of these for a couple dollars a kilo.
They aparently work very well AND are safe for septic systems.
Not wanting to start a war so I will stress I am not sure on this point but, aren't dump points in remote (and not so remote) places septic systems of sorts? I doubt places like Fitzroy Crossing, Derby etc would have deep sewerage plants in place. I know we stayed at a couple free camps last year , St Lawrance Qld for one, with dump points and I KNOW they were not DS.
These places certainly should have 'friendly' smellies in them. lol
Cheers
