The President of the Royal Society of Victoria, Professor Graham Burrows, announced that the Society has initiated moves to commemorate the 150th anniversary of
the Burke and Wills Expedition in August 2010.

awesome fete of aclomplishment, we journeyed to the "dig tree" in the eighties, lost a lot of camping gear when the cooper came down, couldnt imagine doing it on foot or by horse, tough times, tough people, tough country

I have been to one of the trees that were blazed as a navigation point (never found the dig tree) and the history that flows throught the fingertips when you realise the significance of the tree and the fact that it was blazed by some bloke who got there on foot....

GN get behind this, plan it, this is Aussie history, nothing surer. 150y ago, just a small speck in time. Places of interest, Aussie history. Do yourself a favor, be there. I now plan to be at the dig tree, something I have not done

Been a few times, twobob. One of our favorite areas in SA.
Last time was a few years ago now, and the local pastoralist was charging admission. I thing very strongly that that is not on and have not been back since.

That practice needs to be stopped, IMHO, including by Parks, but rather than complicate this thread, I will start another.
