We are new to this forum, and we are also about to embark on our long awaited 3 month trek from Sth Oz to Darwin, Kakadu, Kununurra, Gibb River Road, Mitchell Plateau, Broome, Pilbara, Gascoyne and everything in between as much as possible.
Hope to meet up with some of you sometime, somewhere.
There are 5 parks in Kununurra and they are all good and bad for many different reasons (more good then bad!)
Town Caravan Park is fantastic if you want to be in the middle of town as this park certainly is! Of course there a downsides to being so centralized with the main problem being noise. From time to time if the pub has a band on etc then it can get a little noisy.
Kimberleyland is just on the outskirts ( a nice scenic 2km walk to the centre of town) aituated right on the river (ie lake kununurra). Beautiful spot however the mozzies can be a but hungry from time to time. Kimberleyland has more room so this might be better for you also.
My pick would be Kimberleyland.

Hi guys, I was up in Kununurra back in August - loved the Kimberleyland park, as well. But Hidden Valley is pretty special too, backing as it does onto the national park. Time your visit well as the town is absolutely heaving during the school holidays during the 'winter' months. Make sure you get down to Ivanhoe Crossing which is spectacular. There is a back road along the River Ord towards Wyndham with some top fishing spots (barra, if you've got the temperament). There are free camping spots along here but really no good for the van - best leave it back in town.
Can't really say much about the season so far as it hasn't started! The wet is in full swing and the tourists don't start arriving for a few months yet.
Sorry to dissapoint you Geoff but unless it stops raining today I cant imagine Ivanhoe crossing beong open. The old road between Kununurra and Wyndham that was mentioned is indeed a great trip.
My sister got married along the river on that road last year and the groom even managed time to wet a line whilst awaiting her arrival!

You will have more luck with the GRR then Ivanhoe but again, be prepared for the worst as you will be up north a little earlier then the majority. That said, I think you should be fine.

I have heard that Kununurra may cop a bit of the TC Ingrid. Do you know the situation yet?
