Hi there everyone. Have just discovered this lovely, lovely site and so much great information for us to read.
A little insight for you - My hubby and I are on the verge of retiring and hitting the grey nomad trail - with at least a 5 year plan - if not longer! never to return and quite content with the fact that we will be of "no fixed address".
The house is on the market, and we are hopeful it will sell fairly quickly - we have paid our deposit on our new Kedron van and hope to be on the road in the new year. Lots of big decisions to make, when you take such a step, but we are content with our decisions and can't wait for this great adventure to begin.
I am a photographer by profession (so watch out photo forum!!lol) - Barry a tradesmen and so hope to pick up work as we go - for the first couple of years, just mainly to experience a different lifestyle and meet people. After reading some of the forum articles here it is pleasing to note that the work is out there.
We have travelled extensivley whenever opportunity presented itself, and we anticpate that the first few years will be spent doing the great desert tracks.
Looking forward to seeing you all at some stage on the road. Cheers
g'day lynne and barry and welcome to you. yet another has plans, I wonder just how many of us are out there waiting to sell our homes, is there going to be anyone left to actually "buy" our houses, I would love to see some of your photography work, do you have a website or are you a member of photobucket or picassa
you wont be dissapointed with the desert tracks we did them a fair while ago now and I guess they havent changed all that much, lovely then terrific now
make sure you take a photo of your new rig and post it for us we would love to take a squizz

Hi there again. Would love to share some of my photos, but at this stage we are just in the process of developing our own website - in the hope that we sell some images as we go.
As I work on a macintosh - Picassa at this stage does not work - but it is I believe in the planning, but have an uploader which I am in the process of working on.
Photobucket I am also working on and will keep you updated. Thanks for you quick response and look forward to many more.

Welcome Lynne and Barry. I am fascinated by the number of people on this and other sites who are selling up their homes and taking to the road. This must be one hell of a decision and I think you are all very brave. Would be interesting to know what is behind such a move. Is life in urban Australia so bad that you want to just clear out? That said, all the best for your travels. Hope to see you on the road somewhere, some day.

Welcome Lynne & Barry! I'm sure you will get a lot out of the forum - even if it is only my warped opinion on everything LOL.

Tony- in answer to your question - "This must be one hell of a decision and I think you are all very brave. Would be interesting to know what is behind such a move. Is life in urban Australia so bad that you want to just clear out?"
I am not sure I can fully answer that?? It is hard, but for us the decision has always been easy as we both have had this as our goal for a long long time, so guess it was for us - a 'no brainer'. A lot of it is related to the stress of everyday life and the desire to go back to the absolute basics of life - for me to go back to the decade of the late 60's and early 70's would be just fanatastic...so I guess it is something like that. Where we live is a huge coal mining area, which gives us no incentive to stay here what so ever. If later down the track we decide we like somewhere enough to settle down again, our financial plan will allow us to do that.
For those interested in some of my photos - and I hope this link works??? Here is a link to Photobucket with some of my earlier images - pre upgrade to a Sony Alpha.
"Is life in urban Australia so bad that you want to just clear out?" I can answewr that question, simply YES, YES, YES, LET ME OUT, I'm sick of this life I want my bloody old one back!!!!!!!!! and if I cant have that one, turn me loose so I can find another!!!

Welcome to you both! I'm another who has sold up everything and am hitting the road after Christmas. (From NZ). I will be working as I go, and don't particular care what it is either. I look forward to meeting you on the road somewhere. Dianne
