Hi there Trevor,
Queensland is abound with free camps.  We use the Go Camps book to find these camps.  Some of the suggestions we have found to be totally useless, but others have been tremendous.

Not all that familiar with the Kingaroy and Rocky area, but have just had a look through the book and it mainly has listed rest areas and not much in the way of long term camping.

A little further west is Jericho - which has one of the best long term camps you will find in Queensland - hot showers, powered sites....all free and long term.  Is an interesting area to spend some time.  We stayed at Jericho a couple of years ago - initially for one night and ended up staying 2 weeks.  The locals just made our stay - such a lovely friendly community.

Sorry not to be of more help

Hi trevor welcome to the forum, lynne and barry are dead right, there are plenty of camps in banana bender country, as there is all over our wide brown land, the trick is to find the little blighters, I have used a book called "camps australia wide" for years and it has never let me down,

it is currently in its fourth edition with number five due out in january, it can be perused at your leisure at this website http://www.campsaustraliawide.com/

it can be purchased at pretty much any good book shop for the cost of a couple of nights stay in a caravan park, I use the spiral bound hard back model with the "campsnaps" included, current cost around $75

there is also a website called "camping queensland" in there you may find some spots as well, but of course there is always "word of mouth" stop and have a beer in a local pub (a disgusting habit that I picked up as a youngster and cant seem to shake off) have a talk with the barman and just say where can I park the rig for a night or two or three, there is ALWAYS a local who knows where to go and will be only too glad to tell you

gday bill and welcome to the forum, just had a look at that site and whilst it is way behind and has a lot of catching up to do it has the makings of a top website

thanks for posting that for us and I will be contributing a couple of hundred free sites out of my log when I get the time
