we done it we done it

      G,DAY
Well we had our first outing with the van, hooked her on to the Holden away we went  just a 11/2 hour drive on to a free camp on the Ovens river at BUNDALONG.
Set up van ect near our kids and others  then into the river  great,  got cold cramp hits  out of water  wind comes and stays for 4 days  but what the hell.   is a blast feel 20 again
Sitting enjoying smoke in the eyes and along comes the Prime telle news reporters
Seems the VIC state gov. is going to turn the area into a national park  so no dogs for the dog lovers [5 in our camp no problems]. so im asked to give my views on it  funny not much of what i said was showen on the news .
Well news hounds leave and would u believe along comes the PARK RANGERS.
Part of our camp had a fire just for the hot ashes.  I am sitting at another ash fire and before i could blink water was where a very small fire was,  because i was not sitting at both fires one was put out and i was 20 ft from it.  One other thing,  had a clothes line strung between 2 trees naughty naughty   where is Australia heading  and ive only travelled 1/12 hours  gawd what will we encounter this coming march  i shudder

am I to understand that the rangers were on PUBLIC land extinguishing fires and telling you where you can and cannot string a clothes line, you should have told them to p.... off, they have no jurisdiction there as yet

as for the fire, if you have a water supply close handy (the river) and someone is in attendance (20 feet is considered to be in attendance) with a 20 foot circle of clearing and if it is not a TOTAL fire ban day you could have a dozen fires burning, that is the law in south australia and there is nothing he or any body else could have done about it, that is straight from senior management of the C.F.S. here in Pirie

these bloody gestapo need their heads pulled in, they have not got the right to take any action outside of a national park, their powers end at the park gates

but I'm glad you got out at last even if it was to see an ugly side of camping, as I stated in another post, give a wanker a uniform and he is still a wanker

Hmmmmmm yes as I recall this is how HITLER got his start....Not that I knew him personally... I read somewhere that in NSW they recruit park rangers by cutting the genitalia from deceased prostitutes and stretching them till they can wear a uniform and hey presto a new park ranger....
That remark will probly get me banned.... Oh well....

John, yes it's easy to do... I think the word you are looking for starts with the 3rd letter of the alpabet....

The fun police were actually out on the week end , the overtime budget must have dollars left in it. It's reaching a stage where you will need to go the parks at night only and be out by first light.

The cloths line was a no no because you attached it to one of their trees, attached to the van and a pole in the ground next to the tree and your OK those trees must have called them up to dob you in , nasty little buggers those trees .

If you want to have a fire just put a bucket of water / sand at each one to demonstrate you are prepared just in case.

I recall having a gas BBQ outside my tent in the SA outback and the ranger called by to say I could only have it operating inside the tent , not a good move if you have ever seen a tent fire, obviously had no idea of how to conduct a risk control assessment .

This is what you get when you don't take note of what the pollies pass into law in the wee hours on the last day of sitting , happens every time, remeber it's a group of less than 5000 card carrying members dictate what you can and can't do in a NP , or reserve .

Sorry they stuffed up your first trip into the wilds, Find a dark skinned relo to take with you next time, they can light fires take dogs and fish anywhere they bloody like . Better luck next time
