Ultralights - anyone ever think of getting one?

Ok calm down.... But yes an ultralight is one thing I'd love to own. They can be carried in the back of a car virtually, set up in 20 mins and you can bea airborn to straff the Grey Nomads on Cable Beach, take unauothorised pictures from the air @ Monkey Mia - hours of fun.....

One thing would be for certain, it would need to be scream powered if a 2 seater....

OH OH OH GIVE ME A GO - sorry not shouting - the bird just walked across the keyboard smileno

I want one Basil - but it would have to be a 2 seater.

Wouldn't get away with going on my own????

Had a go years ago out off the big sandhills at Birdsville when I lived there in the mid '80's - Just sensational and something that I will never forget - soaring off the top of Big Red.

Intend to do it again before I leave this earth - way to go

G'day,

Now I know why I see so many cars with a sticker stating "If you can read this, where is my caravan".

Basil, I understand the attraction.
I flew gliders competitively for 20 years and know that the view of the countryside from the air is always different and spectacular.

My thoughts have centered around a paraglider. They weigh just 5 or 6 kg, could be auto towed from a bush track and are capable of soaring flight in thermals.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Basil,
As a former Nui Dat resident, are you at all involved with the Pandanus Park project for vets? Cheers, Tony

Dave this would make you a Mallard, not a common black duck.... Just think Pirie to Arkaroola in around 3 hours - without the corrugations...

I was there briefly in 2005. I'm  retrenched tunnel rat and I found the "scene" at Pandanis not quite what I expected..... Certainly has merit but I think is more for the less sociable type of Veteran. It is a very basic camp site for Vets who want to try this tactic as therapy, I have learned to "remember without reliving" and at Pandanis at the time I was there there were a few "ecentric" Vets who wanted to dig in and believed that "society" is out to get them. As I say my experience was a few years back and I beleive since then there have been a few "changes" one guy says a Psych visits regularly (must fly in an an ultralight as the road was to say the least "crude") There is a website with contact details;
http://veteransanctuary.tripod.com/pprofile.htm

Also another Vets camping park on the road into Tin Can Bay that we stayed at that was very friendly ($6 a day)

Hi Dave289,
I've only recently got involved with the Pandanus Park retreat and hope to go there, maybe next year (I was planning this year, but SWMBO has found a cruise we really need to go on). Sounds like a good deal, with some suitable company. Bush camping, too much beer and a bit of fishing. Cheers, Tony

Basil. didnt you have one of those paper things go down in your area today, crashed into someones tennis court, here to arkaroola by air, I dont think so, too rough for the ambos to come and get me or whats left of me, anyway I sorta remember passing one of those toys, they only do about 40-60 ks dont they??

they'd be good to throw eggs at the rangers though!! tell ya what, you get one and I'll ride shotgun with a bucket of eggs and flowerbombs!!
