Take a minimum of 1500mg Glucosamine per day along with 6 x 1gm fish oil capsules. Give it up to 3 months before expecting a result and try to limit animal fats for best effect.
Seems I am in the same boat, Mum had hers replaced and went without trouble for 9 yrs, but nobody could tell me what happens to them on cremation, Had a friend who has just had a new one , seems the right side is always the worst according to john, but he cannot kneel he tells me ,he was limping bad befoers the surgery, have yet to see him since the last stint in the hospital, Pat is a miner here with both new REPLACEMENTs, seems he wore the others out after 8 yrs, blames the navy for having to many ladders in his ships, but he can Kneel, will be following this with interest

Yep done that, even had synvisc injections that stopped the pain for about 6 months but man OH man that was not the most pleasant experience... Unfortunatley my cartlege has worn through on the left and not good on the right, the glucosomine at least allows me some mobility... Doc says there is nothing else he can offer except a cuppla replacements, in some they seem to work superbly in others not so flash...

heard the same thing Basil but I do think it is to do with how much one exercises the things straight after replacement, if you dont move them straight away they dont "align" or something, I've heard both stories, good and bad but cant wait till I get mine done
oh and they dont cremate them, they reclaim them and reuse them

My eldest sister [74] not that long ago had her left knee done, sis is a larger type girl so blamed he weight for not exercising, well every one was saying poor marie till this davo went for a visit got her out of her chair and got her moving just a 5 min. walk to start with ,went to the casino on friday and would u believe she out ran me the mind is a funny thing in this case.
yep that lines up with the sort of things that I have heard!! if it was me, I would get them done straight away, no question, gossip has it that it is not pleasant at first but after a month or two one feels like a bought one,
walking on knees that are straight out bone to bone joints like mine are is not pleasant either, let me tell you, but because of my age (53) they reckon it's too early, supposedly the knees need replacing every twenty years so they are loathe to do mine at such a delicate age!!!

Ah Sooooo This is why DVA will only do them when you turn 60, they will only do them once so @ 61 I can expect to live till I'm 81, thats OK I only want to see 2029 in good spirits, I have to go to the bicentenary of the Rain Hill Trials.... Any one coming with me?????

last I heard the government number crunchers put the average lifespan of an "average" (whatever that is) male living in a working class suburb of any city came up with between 68 and 72 and the average female at 75, see even in death they win!!!
that is why one cannot receive a retirement pension until one gains 65, if you are one of the lucky ones that attains that age, the powers that be usually only have to pay out for under ten years, you see, the world (or at least the government) is plotting against us all the time!!!
if you live beyond your alloted four score year and ten then you are invariably a bloody nuisance and should be ashamed of yourself, using up all the governments resources like that (even though it is, after all, our money) shame on you!!!
how can we keep our politicians in the luxury to which they would like to become accustomed if you old buggers keep on living so damn long!!

Hi, I had a half knee replacement done October 2007 and I have had a wonderful result. I had reached the stage where I could only walk for short distances and then with lots of pain. I was up walking the day after surgery, got rid of the walking stick within a week and was barely limping after two weeks. It took about 2-3 months before I could walk up and down stairs properly and by about 4 months after surgery I would say I had fully recovered the use of the knee. I can bend and straighten the knee fully and am able to kneel on something soft like carpet. Hubby and I headed of for 5 months and 20,000 kms touring QLD last year with a cruiser and van and I had no problem getting into and out of both van and cruiser. I would call it a great success. The half knee has a life span of approx 10 years; I can have it re-done when necessary; if needed, after the second half knee replacement I could then have the full knee replacement done. Don't know if this will help you, but someone else out there may not have heard of the half knee replacement. Do a search of 'repicci knee replacement' to learn more. Cheers.
The verdict is in, NO NEW KNEES for me DVA have decided in conjunction with the medical experts that my Knees only need shims inserted. Expected to last 5 years then they will consider a replacement if necessary. Of course this could prove financially benificial to them, I may cark it thus saving the public expense of replacements......ROTFL....

well unfortunately that is the case these days, a question of do we do them now or wait a while, he may not need them for much longer
took me 5 months to get into day surgery for my son, original complaint was an abscess on the side of his neck, so I decided to get a couple of other lumps taken off him at the same time as he was having a general anyway, had the lumps removed today but the original abscess has long gone

Oh this is priceless! A clerk @ DVA has "reevaluated" my knees. Response just to hand..." the left knee has severe arthritic degeneration and would not be suited to arthriscopy and it is reccomended that the left knee be replaced......... The right knee though showing signs of similar degeneration has not deteriorated to the same degree and the Department suggests Mr blank is prescribed a non steriodal anti inflamitory to assist with pain relief"...... OH YEAH.... So I'm getting a new left knee and have to wait till I'm 65 to get the right one fixed, in the mean time I'll no doubt be encoraged to top myself to avoid further expense to the taxpayers.... And who says I don't have a sense of humour?
