You folks are very lucky to be able to sit long enough to read and enjoy a book.
I wasn't encouraged to read anything but the newspaper as a kid, and the damage has been done. I just can't sit long enough to get into a book. My hands have to be busy. I do some embroidery when the mood and project take me.
I do however sit long enough to write 'em. Non-fiction tales of stuff I've done and where I've done it. One is currently being proof read, and I'm working on number 2, with about 4 more on the hard drive.
As a kid I'd read the Adelaide Advertiser from cover to cover from the age of about 7yrs. Thus my interest in current affairs, and the weather.
Different strokes for different folks. Just love what you do. Granny

I'm the same granny, I tried to read "for the term of his natural life" when I was in Tassie, I think I got through about 20 pages in the two weeks, too many people to talk to, too many fantastic walks, even at home there is always something to do, always something to rebuild, repair, list as long as my arm to build on the house, always Friends dropping by as soon as they see the cars in the carport

people drop out of the blue with repairs needed doing to their rigs, haven't got the time to read, wouldn't have it any other way

I have written a few articles under different names for different blurbs but all they wanted was MORE, MORE, MORE, got to the stage thats all I was doing, no time for anything else, got approached by a publisher for a book but look honestly I cant be bothered, good on anyone that is able to knuckle down and do that, I found it just too damn hard, I take my hat off to those that do it, I cant, one or two chapters and my mind is off to the Kimberley's, attention span of an amoeba

I have a diverse collection with book cases everywhere  ....

Like ...

All of Wilbur Smith, Robert Ludlum, Ion Idress, Leon Uris, Bryce Courtenay (until he started writing romance), Tom Cole, RM Williams, Mary Durack, Marcus Clarke, Len Beadell (including DVD & tapes), Steele Rudd  etc.

I keep lots of sporting & political biographies & stories like The Shearers' War, selected war stuff (mainly WW2 Singapore & some V'nam .. where I have a family interest).


Lots of Aussie poetry too.


I take my hat off to anyone who has read the whole of Xavier Herbert's Poor Fellow My Country.  I have had several goes but never finished it.   Just like T.E. Lawrence's Seven Pillars Of Wisdom!


I too frequent second hand book shops & Lifeline et al  but with the library overflowing have recently taken to using the public library.

ps. When I read a good novel keeper,  I attach a sticker noting when I last read it.  I find that after 5 to 10 years I can re-read it just like I had never seen it before. 
Old age?

pps . Hope that I can find someone who loves reading this stuff as much as I do so I can give them to when I fall off the perch.

G'Day Cupie.

Sounds like you need a hand to read all them books, I like to help out with that sort of thing.

You should have a yarn with Xina she has a few stacks of books too there almost to the roof, I called in to meet her on my way down to Victoria from Tully and we drove out to the gem fields to meet Mike and Judyhad a good day.

I'm still looking for the seven pillers of wisdom so if anyone has it and wants to part with it I would like to hear from them.

Thats a grouse ide of putting a sticker on the books you have read, I think I'll start that too.

I'm still reading "The Knights Templar" and it's lead me into another line of reading like old religins including witchcraft or wiccan, it's very interesting, Wonder if there is any witch nomads out there, if so I hope they will contact me.

The ebook reader is the go can hold anything up to approx 1000 books and the sd card can hold about 4000 books thats about 5000 in total cost about 1/2 the price of the new book and one hell of a lot lighter
