Not so grey nomads

Spent Saturday at the Perth Caravan & Camping Show. Lots of good gadgets about, and some nice new vans.
I dunno where this recession is I keep reading about becos there were plenty of "sold" stickers on vans, including some big motor homes with price tags like Lotto payouts.
What was interesting was the age group of people there. While there were plenty of we oldies, there was also a pretty good percentage of younger couples with ankle biters. Encouraging trend.
Cheers, Tony

We spent Friday at the Perth Caravan Camping show and it was busy then so expect it would have been a lot busier on Sat & Sun.  Yes we saw a lot of 'all age groups' and agree there  is a recession going on! Lots of people at the caravan show all carrying items they had purchased and driving past all the outside eating places ......all full, yep huge recession !!

Should be a law confining them untill the children mature at around 45!!!!!

Today a lot of vans and motorhomes are sold as the primary residence, it works out cheaper than a static home especially if your in a trade or other occupation which is considered mobile or has no security of tender . Many teachers, police. miners, inspectors of various types, Non GN fruit pickers, trawler crews, all need a place to live , the list goes on forever.

I lot of people reside in van parks as in some cases they can claim rental assistance and not have the headaches that comes with home ownership.

I still can't come to grips with the high cost of vans seeing that they are little more than a surplus cool room material constructed on a wheeled platform. Before you laugh consider the cost of the white goods in a van , then the cost of the body material and all the imported flat packed cupboards and sanitary fittings . Once you analysis those costs and add say 15% for wiring batteries etc, the labour construction cost comes out more than constructing a 20 sq home on your land.

To top it off the moment you hit the road 15 % is lost as the wheels hit the pavement for the first time .

I love vanning just the same

It would all be good if they weren't born as the "soft option" generation, and they were taught good manners and respect at home, BEFORE they started school.
Don't get me started, but my c/pk long-term neighbours left last weekend. Just as well, because I could have been guilty of child murder if they'd stayed much longer.
So all is right with the world now. Cheers Granny

Don't go to Italy, then, Baz
There, Mamma rules the roost and the kiddies (up to 45 yrs old) do exactly as they please.
Scold one and you'll start something you wish you never had.
Formidable creatures, those Mammas.  wink

Probably a mistake to get started on "the younger generation" could open up a whole can of worms............BUT...............Guru and Ma definitely are "over" the ankle biters of this world. Don't get me wrong, we have 16 grandkids between us and a couple of great grandkids as well, and love 'em heaps. Wouldn't be so bad if they were taught manners and respect and obedience, just like we were and hopefully how we brought our kids up.

What went wrong along the way.

I know.........the status of "family" changed. The family concept of the 50's and 60's was that Dad went to work, Mum stayed home, you didn't have to have all the mod cons and the trappings until you could afford them and there was more than enough time for the "family togetherness".

Sorry guys, will leave it at that. I tend to get on the soap box and could go on with pages and pages, suffice it to say..............well least said best mended but I think you would all know where I'm coming from.

Happy day and safe travelling, will be joining you soon.

Cheers Ma and Guru

fully agree with you about the kids, we had a poptop van with pull out ends up at rawnsley station, unruly little ****s everywhere, they were charging straight through our campsite and then started hanging off our supports for the bed ends, told them to piss off out of it and to go back to their campsite only to hear the parents telling them to piss off out of it and go somewhere else, we packed up and went somewhere else
