Yeh, and we could not get more than 42 of them to log on, to create a new record. it is easy to note, so many "just lookers" that do not post. Shy I guess, nothing to do with you Sir Basil
well I figure if we keep stirring the pot with sometimes very silly comments then we can get the occasional grumpy and very irate voyeur to actually contribute his or her bit of nonsense
I would subscribe to the notion of three free views with no posting and then you are out, we have edzacary 1,000 members with over 9,000 posts and 8,875 are mine or Basil's or it seems like it anyway
well perhaps they dont like me and my outspoken views so I may reach the magic 2,000 posts and be like a pigeon and get the flock off, we'l see
But whatever happens I would like to congratulate the forum on achieving it's one thousandth member and wish it to go on forever

Being the quiet and shy type i can sympathise with others that are overwhelmed by the depth of knowledge shown by others in this forum. None the less i love logging in to follow the posts and general banter that has now attracted 1000 members. Congratulations to all for all the hard work that must have gone into this great achievement.
Lets prove Basil's 20 wrong and see how many individual repiles we can get for this post.

G'day, Congratulations to all on making this the best caravanning forum on the net.
Maybe a lot of members do not post because they are travelling and like some of us do not have internet access when on the road. I carry a laptop when we travel but only to download photo's from my camera when my 2 gig memory card is getting full.
We travel on the pension and cannot afford WI FI or Satellite Internet and quite frankly, there are in my opinion, much better things to do than play about with a computer when on the road, and when camped somewhere there is usually someone to have a natter with and if on our own we can soak up the atmosphere and tranquillity of whatever quiet spot we are spending the night.
Irona and I find we do not have to talk all the time we are quite comfortable with each others company to simply sit quietly with our own thoughts and in my case at least, contemplate the sounds of nature around me.
Having said all that this is still the best Forum on the net with a multidude of great people with whom we can all interact as and when the desire strikes.
A big thankyou to all.
John

I'm stuck in suburbia in the short term and have the time and means to access various fora. I occasionally have something to contribute, but, more often than not, I feel inclined to defer to greater knowledge and experience than my own. When I do eventually "hit the road" there will be few, if any, opportunities for me to indulge in internet involvement. However, I have no doubt that I will meet up with others who do have regular access and will enjoy the 'gossip' that they will be able to pass on.
Congratulations on the 1000 and my best wishes for the next one.

I love coming into the forum and reading Dave & Basil's posts. They keep me entertained for hours. Along with everyone else in here of course, but I do think Dave is a real wag and very knowledgeable too.
Sir Basil does there come a time when non active members get the pointy end of the shoe. or once in, in for ever ?
I think they can't get a word in edgewise with me around

John, mate is does not matter 1 iota whether you are shy or like me on the domestic front; always wrong - your opinion matters and your contribs always will be welcome.

Basil you've been teaching people again haven't you, shame on you!!, fora indeed, I thought that was some mispelt brand of margarine
the thing is folks, right or wrong we all get to say just what we want in here and there isn't any know alls to shout us down, all views are respected and indeed encouraged,
I particularly love and encourage the female input, however it does upset me greatly when I read of women running themselves down THAT makes me angry and will quickly get a retort from me,
I have a partially hidden agenda on bringing the female input to the fore, some of the more astute amongst you may have noticed
the only problem that I run into is that many things I say are actually tounge in cheek but are seized upon by grumpy wrinkleys and are argued over while I'm out here in workaday land wetting myself laughing, I too like to make people think
a big thank you to ELL that is the spirit my posts are trying to grab hold of, dont take me too seriously, if you could see my features then you would know I'm having a lend
I've watched with pride many folks like John (jrh) come out of their shells and be able to speak what ever is on their mind thats what I like about this place
but without decent contributers this place would be as dull as watching horsepoop drying in the sun, you people decide whether this is a good place or not

Dave, thanks for the observation, all my life I have been the listener, I was trained to listen to other people, and quite frankly have found it quite difficult to join in online conversations, face to face is a different kettle of fish.
This forum and people like yourself have had a large bearing in helping me to, shall we say lighten up a bit.

Hi, 1000 members great I reckon its a great site just stumbled upon it by accident and love coming on to it everyone seems to know so much Bill and myself have been in fits of laughter at some of the things that have been said on it all I can say is keep it coming folks and what a fantastic job everyone is doing here. Helena.
Well ... I'm new and I have submitted 4 posts already. I know that's a long way off 1000 .. but I may get there one day. I'm finding this to be quite a unique site and hope to make a contribution from time to time
Wow! What a site! (Not the look-at king) I'm proud to be part of it. I find Dave and Basil very amusing as well as informative. In fact everyone's contributions are always informative, educational and/or amusing and entertaining. The site is simple to navigate around, and oh, so friendly. Even the political debates are interesting. I just love it, although I've probably bored a few of you to death. Life is experience, and if someone can learn from my experience I've done a good thing. And Dave, thanks for your encouragement. While I'm of the female nomadic species, I've done a lot of travelling over the past 35 years by various modes, and I love sharing it. Likewise, I love reading about other experiences and useful tips. Spread the word. Cheers Granny

well granny in my previous post I made mention of "decent contributers" you are way up there amongst the best!!! I look at all the girls that are either in this site or have passed through and with a little encouragement from us all here have "grown" to be able to regrasp "life" and rejoin the human race and I just think to myself, Christ what a mob of fantastic, brave and encouraging group of magnificent individuals, if anyone needed inspiration in life just take a look at these women, I am truly humbled!!!
I regularly receive emails from our girls telling me what they are up to and how they have progressed, I am totally overwhelmed by the torment, trials and tribulations that some of you have had to go through and still are going through but then to see you emerge on the other side with a smile the size of the great sandy desert and grasping life by the throat and wringing the daylights out of it is to me a truly amazing, awesome thing, and I am a proud man indeed to say " we helped a little there"
the forum as a whole must not only be congratulated on it's milestone but also the generosity and understanding nature of it's members, I have seen on other "fora" (Basil take note) the degradation and belittling of women, this I am very glad to say is not in our makeup, here we have a sanctuary where I believe womens rights are the very equal if not greater than a males input
we are a travel forum and as such gender does not, should not and, if I have anything to do with it, WILL not come into it
but I will return the soap box to the corner now in readiness for the next user

I wonder though Dave, maybe we by encourageing the femmes to express their opinions if we are not being sexist in as much as some of the women want to be blokes and some of the blokes would rather be women? Some women are really very clever and creative and find it hard to communicate with men as some men are chauvinisits... Then again women have to realise their place, did you all know it was a woman who started the "industrial revolution" and got us into the situation we now face? Yes true it was Mary Watt who discovered the steam liffting the lid off her kettle but since she had no rights under Scottish Law her husband had to patent the Steam Engine in his name and thus he became famous and put Mary back in her place, cooking the Oats and stuffing the Haggis....

yes i miss her as well but like she like had her five minutes like and like moved on a wee bit, hope all is well for her, good lady!!
I just encourage the ladies to be themselves and not have to put on airs and graces and not act dumb, i see this forum belonging as much to them as it does to us (much as I hate the them and us description, there is no other, because if one looks very very hard there is actually a difference between the sexes, their hair is normally longer, or at least it used to be and they tend to nag more )
perhaps voyeurs is not the apropriate terminoligy but what else would one call a person whom merely "observes" the carrying on of others

Perverts, peeping toms and in the west I think Meercat is used to describe these people.....
We could call them 'scrutineers' I guess.
Those who participate are "interlocutors"

I still giggle over Frank Muir's kiddies books about that Afghan Hound puppy, "What-a-Mess", especially the numerous 'marginalia' and other mini story lines that ran throughout the pages. They are works of real genius and the illustrations by Joseph Wright are absolutely brilliant.

His explanations of common phrases are legend, one in particular - he had to explain the phrase " In the shade of the old apple tree" and he went on about gathering materials building a chook shed getting some chooks and ended up "sitting in the shade of the older poultry" He would have been brilliant on this forum....
