Delay

G'day,

Well it looks like our travel plans will have to be put on hold for a few weeks longer than anticipated, we were planning on leaving the first week in June but now it seems we will not be leaving until August, reason -  head on the car cracked and the total cost of a reconditioned head, supply and fit, believe it or not is $1946.70.  It sure made a hole in the budget, but we will get there yet I am determined.

At least it happened at home & not on the road ... Could have been far more inconvenient and expensive I suspect.

You're quite correct, much rather now than somewhere out the back of beyond, just damned annoying to say the least.

Had to rebuild a diesel and that cost $5500 with mates rates discounts back in 2001.

I have a quote from a toyota dealer to completely rebuild our little blues engine including a reconditioned head for a whopping $1,200, i think there is a bit of "mates rates" in there as well as it is the same owner/mechanic who rebuilt her gearbox, what a difference a little engine makes

she is running perfectly and not using a drop of oil but I thought I would get her rebuilt for the new owner upon sale of her in a couple of years, all going well

but hell $2,000 for replacing a head, I may be out of touch pricewise but that sounds very expensive to me!

G'day Dave,

As you say pal was expensive, I had two choices in the matter leave the car in the carport until I had sufficient funds to to pay the cash there and then or use the local Ford dealer where I am the proud owner of a 30 day account, which in practice gave me almost 60 days to come up with the money.  As we needed the transport for a couple of rather urgent matters having the repairs done as quickly as possible was considered to be the best course of action at the time.

Talking to the mobile mechanic who does all of our servicing and other minor repairs he quoted $1450 to completely recondition the motor which would have had the car off the road for approximately 6 days and required the cash on completion, I had little choice but to pay Fords extra and in my opinion exhorbitant price to get the car back in 2 days and allow me the extra time to put the money together.

The problem with the head just happened at a most inconvienent time as my wifes medical checks to ensure her bowel cancer had not returned was far more important than paying the extra cost at the Ford dealership and we had no other transport available to us at that time.

The phrase grin and bear it seems to pop into my mind every time I think about it.  In hindsight we possibly could have found an alternative somewhere along the track but after the trauma of my wifes bowel cancer a few years ago I guess a certain amount of panic set in and in all honesty her health and wellbeing are paramount to me.  The loss of our 14 year old dog a couple of years ago sent me into the depths of depression so God only knows what would happen if I lost the wife, she is not only my best friend but my whole world revolves around her.

yep you are dead right they have us over a barrell, my magnas passenger side electric window made an expensive sounding noise this morning and ceased to operate, went and seen the fellers who sold the vehicle to me and yep just out of warranty, I thought that'd be right worlds plotting against me again

anyway asked what the problem may be and how much to fix it and when,

busted cable operated system in the control arm( common problem as it is plastic for "safety reasons"),

approximately $300,

and about ten days

man gets a couple of quid in the bank and then they (the people who are plotting against me) find out about it and nick it

lose the dragon, I got a nail gun out in the shed, I am not stopping in this world without her

Don't have a nail gun but I believe Bunnings have plenty at a reasonable cost, may just be worth a visit.

"You guys are so special," says the little old lady who's been single since 1982, give or take the odd practice run.
Your wives are so lucky to have you, flaws and all. There's more to a relationship than the blatant obvious, and the biggest one is friendship.
While I can change light bulbs, put out the rubbish, reverse and hitch up the van, sometimes I'd like to have a co-pilot. A good quality co-pilot, who can guide me to the tow hitch.
She'll be right. The thought of having another false start gives me the shivers.
Enjoy the life you have, reflect on the good life you've enjoyed together, and look to the future you have together.
Cheers Granny

Perhaps, like me, you're just not satisfied with normal people, Granny.

I've divorced three wives (sequentially, not concurrently), mainly on the grounds of egocentricism, dishonesty and blatant disloyalty.

Perfidious devils, all of them furiouswink

It'll take an unique individual to get me interested in pairing up again.
