Hi All I'm new to this forum so let me introduce myself I'm Des from Brisbane. After having two heart scares ive decided to take early retirement and hit the road full time. I am now searching for a rv i have not decided if i go for a large caravan or 5th wheeler. I open to advise and tips, I also like to hear your stories of your travels.
ah!! welcome to you Des. early retirment, hell is there two more words in the english dictionary that would conjure up so much day dreaming, it does with me, well you had a couple of scares and like me you lived to tell the tale so I guess thats a good thing, the next step is to make sure you dont get another so follow the quacks advice, eat properly, throw away the fags, excercise and give up the grog,........................................................ well two out three wont be too bad!!!
nomadding can do all these things, so the next thing is to decide what to buy, where to go and when to go, decisions, decisions, decisions all not to be taken lightly, so have a look ask some questions and make an ill informed decision the same as the rest of us, but when you have all the facts at your command then you can make a decision, there is of course no "wrong" way to go nomadding, tent, camper trailer, caravan, motorhome or fifth wheeler, they are only there for one reason and thats to give you shelter from the elephants er!!!!! elements
anyway have fun in the hunt and I hope you track down a goodun!!

Hi Des welcome from us as well. Seems that having a couple of heart attacks is almost mandatory to be a grey nomad ?. i retired 3 years ago after the second and now trying to get the boss to follow suit (retire that is)
don't forget to check out the "choosing a rig" section on the home page.

Welcome to the world of Grey Nomads. Well done on making the decision to retire while you still can. Now get out there and do what you've always wanted to do, but work got in the way. Will you be wanting to go off-road, live in luxury or in simple comfort. If you tow a van it frees up your vehicle to have a look around the region you're parked up in. If you have a motor home you may need to tow another vehicle with A frame or on a trailer. Registration, fuel and insurance. 5th wheeler is nearly as versatile as caravan but can be more cumbersome with some height issues causing restrictions with overhead clearance. Small camper trailers, camper vans, pop tops, solid tops, choices, choices, choices. Good luck with that. We're a great mob here on GN's. Cheers Granny

It's a strange thing really that so many of us need to stare death in the face to recognise what it is in life that is truly of value. Sorry to hear of your health problems but glad to see that you're taking the correct remedies
And welcome from me too, a relative new stirrer here.

Welcome from us as well Des. Glad to hear you are on the mend and starting to enjoy life. So many who decide to do it are just that bit too late. My philosophy in life is to enjoy every moment as we never know how many moments we have left. You ahve come to a great place for friendship and advice you couldn't ask for a better group of people to chat too.
