Walking past my local deli and saw an ad for Saveloys ( the real deal) and bought some for lunch great just heated with fruit chutney, another of lifes simple pleasures is wholegrain toast with lashings of home made marmalade ( has to be home made to have oranges in it) with lashings of sour cream.... Oh yes.... I must be a simple person I guess but I enjoy that type of food, even swap recipes for scones with ladies from the CWA who are the ones running the country. Though my proposal to allow male members was rejected at the last meeting.

yep I keep on bashing my ideals through about the "simple things in life" I too am a "sav man" love the home made marmelade and chutneys
if there is a folk fair or farmers produce market within coo-eee of me I will be there and return with a boot load, having good neighbors I get plenty of preserves as well, nothing like a bowl of ice cream and home made preserved peaches or apricots, dont go much on that "gellatti" stuff though but dont tell them, they'd belt me
went to one in wirrabara a couple of years ago after dropping off a bit of furniture that I had made for a chappy over there, thought I would be smart and bring back some cases of preserves just for storage,
coming home I was run off the road by a woman who was still putting the seatbelt on her kiddy 40 kms out of town, well what a mess, busted jars and fruit everywhere, I nearly cried,

The camp fire in the bush, early morning (before sunrise), toast just burnt with butter and vegemite on it. Hot coffee in an enamel mug, steaming into the face. My dog along side, enjoying the toast as well. Birds start their day with a chat (feathered)
Simple pleasure, that lasts a life time.
Basil, try changing your name to Maysil, and read the womans weekly, for conversation. See if that gets you past security at CWA. Great scones in there
The only up side of your experience Dave is you didn't end up as jam. I love home made whenever I can get it. A few years ago my daughter was living in Gawler and had an 80+ year old apricot tree which grossed 80kgs of fruit. She sold most of them to a local organic produce store at Lewiston. The rest she brewed into home made jam, and sent me a jar for Christmas. Yummm! A great present, and I loved it. Everything seems to be the best when the KISS principle is applied. It's nice to be among friends. Chris

well I had the pleasure of visiting one of the people who make the preserves and jam, god knows how old the trees are but they are all knarled and wrinkled and must be at least 50 plus years but the fruit is massive and tottaly loaded, magnificent
BOB, been there will be again, love it

yep I was a vollunteer firey for many years and when we were out on the job the cwa had scones and pasties, lamingtons and tea by the barrell, first there and last to leave, just like having a great swag of "mums" around,
any little kiddy going without in the town and they new about it, no empty bellies while they were there, by hell I wont have a bad word said against them,
but oh gawd, the gossip,

Hi! Basil, We tried your fish sausage recipe on Good Friday and they were really tasty, Thank you. Also thanks to Dave, the Dragon and Lil Blue for the great "Cobb" recipes on a previous topic. Have to say we are enjoying the friendship of Grey Nomads and all the good tips and hope to catch up with a few GN's during our travels. On the countdown now. All the Best Liz and Ed
well theres more than a thousand of us in here now so theres gotta be one or two here that you can get along with, and you are more than welcome anytime!!!
speaking of simple pleasures, I have my "other adopted" daughter, the beautiful Julie, here cuddled up beside me on the lounge, laid back, footrests up steady tables on laps twin cups of coffee in hand double chocolate cake with chocolate icing and chocolate filling, fresh from the oven, reading the nomads, watching the idiot box and talking about life, the universe and everything, sharing a tear and our thoughts
I am the happiest man in the world at the moment!!! I dont think I will move evermore

I remember those days with the CWA too davo.....pitty now its all organised and taken away from those great ppl.....yummmmm thinking egg sandwitches.....sausage rolls....with tons of home made sauce....fruit cake wrapped in grease paper..
big long tables of it all covered with butchers paper, those buggers worked their fingers to the bone, still remember coming in from a big one just out of georgetown starving, I grabbed a sausage roll only to have one large matron smack me on the back of the head and say "go and have a wash you dirty animal" and thats the same one that would wash and bandage your wounds while your trying to have a cuppa
still remember the hanky would come out and some old duck would give it a lick and then wash a dirt mark off the face
salvos and the red cross are fantastic but they arent the same, not like having all them "mum's" on the job
then the fundraising, wished to hell I'd bought up all their crochet work now, cant get it any more, although we have found a lady who is still doing it but it's rare, then there was all their jams, pickles and preserves, the tinned stuff is not the same
keep on saying it, the worlds changing but it aint for the better

Thats why Judy gets along with me ,----- the simple thing??
They do still say "love is blind". You are so lucky to be with each other and enjoy it.
The CWA used to keep the community together. Since those people have aged and the farms and towns are taken over by the younger set who have to both work to pay for their top shelf lifestyle, those homely things have gone. Before Govt funded Rural Counsellers were introduced during the 4 year drought in SA in the mid 80's the CWA did everything. Supporting each other, raising funds and packing food parcels for the strugglers and anything else which confronted their communities. Together with the church communities they worked together for the common good. Oh, please bring back the simpler life. Or maybe that's what we're doing. Living the simple life. Chris
