It's called planning ahead.
Come the 1st of June, get off the road as the southern nomads head north for the winter. Then get out of the way on 30th September as they head south again to escape the heat and humidity of the monsoonal build-up.

As for kids - there are nice, well mannered, happy kids who respect where they are and the people they are sharing it with.
Some parents consider the park to be a gigantic playground and let the kids roam free wherever they choose, as long it's not under their feet or annexe. And they're free to make as much noise as they want to, as long as it's not in the vicinity of mum's and dad's camp.
That's when I get cranky.
The kids use the amenities as a playground for water games and hide and seek. They touch things they're shouldn't touch like power leads, hoses and taps, ropes, pegs, vans and cars.
A place and time for everything, and everything in it's place.

I usually log on direct to the forum & rarely go to the greynomads web site page.

Do this & you'll see what the story is.

For my part I agree with the mass. In the past we always avoided the CPs during school hols. Recently though as we take an active role with the grandkids we seem to be only able to get away DURING the school hols. Gawd what a change! But after you mentally adjust it's OK & enhanced by sharing the experience with the grandkids.

ps. agree 100% with Chris' comments about the irresponsible parents who turn the kids loose without supervision.

pps. When we get home from School Hols trip we immediately look for an opportunity to get away again to the peace & quiet of an out of holidays rest.

Yep like the majority i agree with the above. being one of the retirees i can choose not to go during holidays and enjoy the quiet in the off season.
At the end of the day, if c/van parks didnt make a motza during the busy periods, then they would close down, and then where would we be ? and soon i'll be doing the grandkids thing too.
Having said that, i voted to ban them, just because i thought no one else would.
The devil made me do it.

Granny take the southeners ( VIC TAS SA) off the road in Q/land, and Q/land dies ,bet the goverment loves us all.
And about the kids running riot, now u and i know it is the minority that do that now i might be one out but for some reason i know i wouldnt want my kids.sitting all day playing with crayons and reading Noddy books and having to go down at 3o'clock in the arvo so us oldies can sleep .They have to laugh, cry and have disputes its called learning to grow up [hehe i missed out on the growing up Wendy says].

I've been camping alot.....and for the best part..the kids are great.....last 2 trips they been fantastic...only grip I have is....dogs.....or actually one dog....camp area full....with many dogs........all under control...except for one.......yap.yap.constantly....you would think its owner would get the message...after prob 8 ppl told them to shut it up or it be turned into sausage meat...but no....they say they training it....funny it was 30ft away from them...
Every one has the right to camp.....in C/Parks any time of the year...well so I've been told.LOL

Do you know your lips go purple when you're tongue's in your cheek? I stress cheek - (having fun with out language).

Anywhere north of Kalbarri in WA would also fall to bits without the annual southerners trekking north.
I'm not sure, but I think FNQ tourist operators prefer the Japanese kind.
The biggest worry on the road is those quite senior drivers, towing. For all their experience they do get a bit wobbly at the wheel as they get more senior.
The other worry is the urban dweller taking the annual holiday out of the 'burbs, towing a huge van, with a car full of distractions, on the open road beyond city speed limits. Some seem to have difficulty with the open road speed and the tow job, and the road courtesy seems to apply to everyone else, but not them.
And then there's those "distractions". I agree whole heartedly they be encouraged to play out in the fresh air, away from computer games and ipods blasting in their ears. I'd join them if I could, or if I'm invited. Of course it's the matter of respect and manners, in relation to the personal space of fellow campers. I'd expect the parents to impart this knowledge.
As we don't live in an ideal world, we have to accept these things may not happen, but maybe they will all be wiser for the experiences as they drive home again.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh no way known do I holiday when the school kiddies are on holiday unless I get caught then it's a case of batten down, hang on, lock up and brace yourself. I give my son heaps about being responsible for his son, he is OK but some parents just think that everyone else should have to endure their kids. Then again maybe I'm just a cranky old fart who does not see the fun in having annexe ropes ripped out, power leads pulled out, having to provide bit and pieces for kids with broken bikes so they can ride them around the amenities blocks ( thats why having your own toot and shower is a good thing).....

well what I do when other peoples kids are becoming a nuisance is I ask if any of them has a cricket bat and ball or a footy, then we go to a clear space and have a truckload of fun

dads invariably join in, mums then get together and have a yak and to be honest it is a fantastic way of getting to know the people around you

we dont frequent c/parks but I am sure the same rule would apply given an open space and half a dozen kids, it would end up as an enjoyable pastime, works everytime in large free camps,

last time I did it we went and seen our b.i.l. in the moonta bay c/park, kids were becoming a nuisance (bored out of their brain) so I asked about the bat and ball and half a dozen kids followed me down for a game, within an hour I estimate we had 30 people, adults and kids, down on the beach all having a ball

I find that if one grizzles about someone Else's kids then that person is automatically ostracized and is doomed to become the "outsider"
