Can anyone tell me what a Developmental Road is? The road to Arkaroola in The Flinders Ranges was such a road. My first, and I love dirt roads. Shook the **** out of me and my van (didn't matter) - and seemed to change every couple of ks - but i'm still getting the bulldust out. Some of the roads that interest me in Qld are labelled the same. I think I'd have to psyche up for them... cheers Sue
They are usually open surface roads of various conditions. Just as the title implies - being developed. In same cases the development stopped when the money ran out a long time ago. It's entirely up to you whether you go via that route or find a more reliable surface to cruise along in your home. They can take their toll on the fixtures and fittings in vehicles, vans and motor homes. Best not to shake it to bits. They do pass through some really beautiful country, so, your choice. Safe and happy travels. Chris

More like surveyors tracks or mining exploration access roads unless they service a community somewhere along the route they only get money allocated when absolutely necessary

I have seen the almighty cruisers rattle themselves to death on corrugations, Just pick a hwy, in its early days, No Designer has come up with the foolproof suspension yet It all comes back to the driver, I have seen the IDIOTS low flying on them, ,Literally bouncing from top corrugation to top,, when you think of it thats only giving you 50% contact with the surface, what happens if you want to stop quick, Please slow down and remember the dust you are kicking up ends up in your car, maybe in your computor, then you cant tell us how your journey is going,
sue which road to arkaroola did you take, was it the broken hill road that bypassed Blinman, if that was the one then that wasnt a development road, thats just an old cattle path that got graded in the 60's
we took that one when we went up there, I'm surprised you got through with the motorhome
good luck getting the bulldust out

Some of these new fangled vehicles have air bag suspension. It's a very expensive exercise if the bags get punctured by the stones. I've seen a Greyhound bus hanging very precariously at the Sandfire Roadhouse, after popping a bag on the Great Northern Highway in WA. The coach limped to Broome to be repaired. Your motorhome, your decision. Adventure can be brave or foolish. You choose. Take care Sue. We need to hear about your experiences. I'm still jealous I'm not out there. Chris

Dave, I came in from Leigh Creek/Copely SA. It was beautiful - apart from the road - 130kms. But thank you everyone. I get the gist. Sounds like 'Developmental' may be past tense.... Am in Denman upper Hunter at present looking for a park around Maitland (running out of clean undies - need to do a load of washing) Why is there always washing?
thats the way we went out, hell, compared to the broken hill road that one is absolute heaven, just got to watch those corners that cross the creeks one nearly got us
the buggers are ninety degrees after long straight stretches, deadly, aparently a young feller was killed by a corner not that long ago
when we did the broken hill road it was second gear and all bits rattling all the way, we almost lost one of our water containers off squeeky that day
still getting the bulldust out of little blue
but if I was you I would stick to blacktop with your motorhome if you want her to last
