ANZAC Day

Lest we forget....

Poem by Laurence Binyon

   With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is a music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncountered:
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn*.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables at home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end they remain.

They shall grow not old....as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn
*

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them

Thanks for the poem.
I hope everyone has a wonderful ANZAC Day, celebrating in the way you choose to celebrate.
I will be joining my fellow Sing Australia members to share the morning with the residents of the Mary Potter Aged Care Home. Then sharing a bbq with the singers at one of their homes.
Four of our members are currently in Gallipoli as part of the choir to sing at the dawn service.
Sing Australia is a great national organisation which welcomes people who love to sing, even if they can't. It's very sociable, and a lot of fun. We do "gigs" around Cairns, and there are 2 or 3 other groups up on the Tablelands, and at Innisfail.
Have a great day, and let's give thanks we still can celebrate our freedom, and remember those who gave, and still give their lives so we can do so.
Cheers

yep I would just like to throw my two bob in here as well and just say

"THANKS GUY'S AND GAL'S"

without you, past and present, we would not be enjoying the lifestyle we have now

we the people, owe you the warrior's, a huge debt, one that we could never repay, not the government, just us!!!!!

ANZAC day was a good one for us - we put in an offer on a house. Offered the asking price has everything we wanted, space for the van and a large "studio" in the back yard which I will commandeer. No one else seems interested, the kitchen will need a flat pack kitchen from Bunnings and a few other cosmetic things....
The Agent got back to us and told us that he wants to finalise the offers on Wednesday and asked us to have a second look at the place. He obvoiusly thinks he is going to embriol us in a bidding war with some of his friends posing as other interested parties, Oh yes these blokes are sleazy, but I have sent him an email asking for the building report. Once I have that I'll send him an email back outlining all the faults and thanking him for the oportunity to allow us to review or withdraw our offer. We offerd full price, there should be no debate, It takes a sleaze to fight a sleaze LOL.....
