yep thought so, thats why I wasnt going to answer in there, now as for wilpena being just for the toorak tractor brigade, HELL NO!! plenty to see and do with the holden, we try to do it every year with little blue, fantastic getaway
make sure you take the "b" roads, I can only assume that you are following the murray up through mildura and on to morgan then to burra, do you know about the free camp at morgan (east side of the ferry, hard left at top of ramp) and also the one just back from burra (burra creek gorge)
when you hit burra (spend a bit of time here as it is steeped in history), take a drive across to clare and spend a day or two nosing around in there great winerys, from clare head through gulnare, georgetown and on to gladstone, at gladstone take the laura road, home of cj dennis and also golden north ice cream, head up through wirrabara and spend the night in the forest, on the way you will pass a bakery on your right at "stone hut" this is a must stop position as the pastys and coffee are grouse
from there head to quorn, home of the pichi richi steam preservation society, stay out at the dutchmans stern conservation park, freebie and a great spot
from there head to hawker take a look at the "panoramic painting" you'll see where it is, from there it's only a hop skip and a jump on to wilpena
great spot, try to spend some time here it is a surprising position absolutely steeped in history, grab a bite and a drinky's in "the poddy dodgers bistro" or "paddys bar" or the "captain starlight" restaraunt, all within a ten minute walking space from the campsite, say g'day to the resident emu's, kangaroo's and kookaburra's for me, they are not tame but do live in the area, very pleasant, there is a visitor centre and a cafe with fuel, gas and water as well as basic food item's all government run
if you head out to some of the gorges just out of wilpena pound you will see the fantastic beauty of this place, if you are heading further north then take the geological trail, should be able to take the van, last time we went through with little blue it was in pretty good nick and easily traversed with a car and van, just watch the rocks in the creeks, keep an eye out for the little yellow footed rock wallabies and wedgies, this road leads to the main highway that runs north
if you are not confident with the geological road then take the blinman road straight out from the wilpena turn off (all bituman now) then at blinman turn left onto the parachilna road and on to leigh creek from there the great outback awaits
dont know how far you want to go but it will be a while before you run out of road up there

Im a game bloke in a car and would love to go through to Marla via Liegh creek, but Wendy would be on tender hooks. thanks again mate.
Hi we have just been thru here and it is absolutley gorgeous, I recommend you visit Auburn, about 20 k's south of Clare, the birth place of CJ Dennis, wonderfuly preserved old historical stone buildings all beautifully presented, head out to Mintaro 15k's away which is a heritage listed town while you're there visit Martinadale Hall, magnificent!! this is where Picnic at Hanging Rock was filmed, equal to any English manor beautifully decorated inside and furnished in it's original state. If you are looking for a cheap accomodation the caravan park in Auburn is great, very easy going, check in whenever, checkout whenever happy hour every night at 5 - learn heaps of stuff this is why we stayed longer. Loved the place.
We have explored Dave's back yard and very nice too!now in Strathalbyn bloody freezing!! here for few days visiting surrounding towns.
Good to see the drought is over, good to see the rain. By the way Dave...........pasties at Moonta were yum !! Baker there is 5th generation descendant of a cornish miner.
