quick trip info

I need some info on roadhouses north of three ways anyone know the next place that has decent rooms. My daughter is leaving cold Berry for a job at All Seasons Kununurra and has to be there by thursday week. i was going to go with her as far as katherine then come straight back. Don't want to stay in Tennant Creek and could make it to next stop from Three ways but I could not remember if there was anything before Renner Springs. Any ideas would be great thanks leaving Corowa Saturday catching the ghan back Wed night from katherine, flying adelaide to Melb and train again back home it will be hectic Cheryl

There's a good roadhouse at Renner Springs, Mataranka township has hotel, motel, lots of choices at Katherine, and cabins at Victoria River van park. Most have cabins to overnight in.
If she's not towing a van she will do it quicker than I did.
Make sure she stops at Mataranka for a pie. The roadhouse shop on the left coming in to town from the south has the locally made pie. When I say "pie", I mean a huge pie.
It's about the circumference of a saucer, about 6 cms at the highest point. When I first tried one I saw this huge mountain of pastry, and expected to find a puddle of mince in the bottom. Boy was I wrong! It's full of chunky beef in a tasty gravy, really full. It cost $8 in 2006, so I don't know if inflation has hit the Mataranka pie these days, but you just have to try one. Be prepared to settle in for a while, as it took me almost an hour to eat it. It's HUGE!
Kununurra is a bonza spot and I'm sure she'll enjoy her time there.
I still haven't done the cruise on Lake Argyle, but one of these days ...... The Grotto between Wyndham and Kununurra is a beaut spot, and a trip to the top of 5 Rivers Lookout at Wynd gives a great perspective of the lay of the land.
Fresh water (Johnson River) crocs in the town lake, but estuarine snappy handbags abound on the local waterways.
Of course there's the diamonds. She had to get a Kimberley Argyle Diamond.
Cheers Chris
