The Rig

Well guys we are nearly there ,drove down to McLean yesterday and purchased this 2001 Jayco Freedoom pop top ,no shower but hey the budget gets a little stretched with all the extra costs taxes etc.
Anyway its in good nick except for hail damage to front and it tows like a dream behind the Falcon with 1145 tare weight.
So change of rego to do today and find someone on the Gold Coast to wire up the Falcon for the electric brakes, order some stabiliza bars and fit an external cooler to the falcon for the trans.
A major service is planed for the falcon tomorrow (all fluids) and buy some tools and Beding etc for the van, we will then be almost all set
Yahoo!!
Cheers  Mike and Cushla

Well Done!! For a 2001 model it looks very good. I hope you have a great time with it.

You sound like you are covering all the mechanicals too.

Is it the 17ft length?

good job you two, get the trans serviced regularly and be GENTLE with it, try to get an oversized trans cooler fitted, the van looks a treat who cares about hail damage a lot of great times to be had in that outfit and I hope you get them all

dont forget us and keep in contact with updates and plenty of piccy's

all in all a top looking rig. well done indeed, you'll be as flash as a rat with a gold tooth ripping down the highway with that setup.. happy trails

Thanks guys ,had the brake controller fitted today another $320 and we bought an oversized drake oil cooler from Autobarn today another $140 it all adds up.
Change of ownership of the van turned into a major as it is registared in NSW and we are based from Queensland ,as soon as the saw our brand new Qld drivers licences they spat the dummy and said we have to rego in Qld. Not so simple as NSW roadworthy and gas cert is no good in QLD so more expence , we even have to tow it down to the Queensland Transport for them to measure it.?????
Well will not complain I guess it is all for good reason.
Wonder if we can claim the 10months rego left on NSW Rego?????

The van is 17ft buy the way, I paced out the overall lenght and reckon with the Falcon we are up to about 20meters total.
Cheers Mike

Happy travelling Mike & Cushla,

You have chosen a good van with plenty of parts and service back up around the traps, built in Oz for Oz conditions, well done.

I would try to get a discount on your previous Rego, nothing ventured nothing gained, ring them and explain the circumstances and see what they say.

Look forward to seeing you on the road,

Berg

Looks a great unit.... Yes you can reclaim the remained of the NSW Rego less the "admin" fee....Take the plate to a NSW Rego and hand it in and claim your prize....

Looks like a well matched rig & a good choice.

Is it hail damage or possibly stone marks on the front.  No problem really.

I would make sure that the wheel bearings & break linings etc are in good condition before heading off. An inexpensive job & one that you can do yourself if you are mechanically minded.

Enjoy your travels.
