Well we thought they were an endagered species these Grey Nomads, we have been on the road for 8 weeks now and met many travellers who meet the criteria of being a GN, but when we have asked them if they are a member of the grey nomads website it has always been met with a blank look on their faces.
however.......That all changed today
..............yes we finally met a real LIVE Grey Nomad!!!!! When we saw her setting up camp we both got the 'vibes' she was one of us you know, friendly, sense of humour, animal lover, can't remember what she did five minutes ago, fitted the criteria perfectly. So we went to talk to her and when we mentioned GN's website she said YES she was a member.............whoohoo!!! she probably thought we were a little mad as we got a bit over excited at meeting our first GN!!
But after all we have travelled all the way from West Australia and it wasn't until we got to the Gold Coast that we actually met one!
So Xtrail51 as she is known here, joined us for happy hour and it was great, we are here for a few days so is Barb..........yes we are even on first name basis!! will hopefully join us again for happy hour, we will even provide some extra cheese for Molly, her beautiful dog!
Well we were so excited about meeting a Grey Nomad we posted it in the Solo Forum when we meant to post it in the GENERAL Forum ..... didn't take our anti dementia pills this morning!! ......or did we?? ..... can't remember....???
I dont think it happens accidentally, ,Like all organasations in comparison to the total population of Australia and the density of people meeting on the coast I consider myself lucky that I live is a tourist area, have now met 8 GN, all of them very worthwhile chacterers, and an education for me , and fortunatly they have all come to me ,
Heading north to Rocky Bridgee you will come across a few more, And then dont forget to head to Sapphire What notably changes has there been since the last time
Seeing the same thing here, the only GN we have met in 4 months have been organised meets. We to are pushing the GN forum. Spending the next few nights in Mt Molloy and doing day trips out to the Daintree and Cape Tribulation.
I hope you enjoy Mossman Gorge and the Daintree River as much as I did. It's beautiful country. It was nice to meet you last week. I'm now displaying my GN sticker, but it won't be much use until I hit the road. The tourist traffic is heading into town now, so I may be spotted around town or in the park. Safe and happy travels. See you 'round. Chris

Well we will be going to Rockhamton within a week, but don't think we will be getting to Sapphire, is there something special at Sapphire we are not aware of ? well apart from the fossicking for gem stones. Would love a Sapphire ring but the bank balance won't stretch to my expensive taste!!
Do you mean what has changed for us since our 74 trip? well yeah how things like the big pineapple which in 74 stood out all on it's own and looked huge appears smaller now due to the commercial buildings surrounding it, same as the golden guitar at Tamworth, we drove past it as it is also lost among all the money making shops surrounding it, and thats only 12 years since we were at Tamworth, a lot of the touristy icons seem to be lost in commercialism, I think it's called progress ?????
