Hi folks, Has any one been to Kidmans camp near Bourke NSW. If so was it good, bad or ??????. Looking at staying there o/night in June,any comments welcome.
Actually it's a great spot, freindly people run the place. IT'S OUT OF TOWN SO YOU DON'T GET DISTURBED by those with a penchant to wander Bourke itself all night long commiting random acts of vandalism.

We stayed there for a few days in 01. As Basil said it is far enough out of town to be out of the way of the out of control elements of the community.
We chose a site with a pleasant view across the paddock to the tree lined Darling (of course we couldn't see the water.. the Darling has steep / high banks at this particular spot) but it was a short stroll to the paddle boat, for a cruise.
Would certainly recommend it as it was then.
At that time there was a fair bit to see round the area, particularly the irrigation area .. that may have not survived the last drought.
Kidmans Camp is a nice place for a few days. Give Bourke a break though sure there are some bored kids but there is no funding or help and the local coppers 4 off them have over 400 sqaure KM to patrol.
The sites are spacious and there is lots of room between campers, (unless like a lot of folk who just have to be right next to the 'loos!) The well supplied amentities are spacious, airy and are always clean.
As an aside, another thing that continues to fascinate me in this country, is why in Bourke and other places nearby, there is this necessity to have manproof fencing around businesses, and protective bars and grilles on shop fronts and doorways. Now that is something, I am really "Sorry" about.
