Can anyone help me with my problem? I am travelling to the Cape later this year and want to leave my caravan somewhere near Cairns that isn't too expensive.
I left mine at Crystal Cascades CP in my abortive attempt ot get to the tip. BUT as it's sealed all the way to Cooktown maybe you could leave it there as no doubt you were going to Cooktown anyway....

Hi johncav. Right now you could take it with you. The road is better than it has EVER been, according to the locals. We have been on the Cape for a month and today drove from Coen south to Laura, and the road was still very good, although dusty in some sections. There were several left at Bramwell Junction while the owners drove the OT Track too. No doubt the roads will get rougher as the tourist season gets into full swing.

No Corrugations? It was the corrugations that killed our attempt to get to the tip. Maybe we were just wimping out...... There is talk of rebuilding the Laura to Cooktown railway, for reasons I can't imagine....

Hi and welcome Johncav. I am currently residing in the First City Caravilla in Cairns, and they have a storage "paddock" for cape travellers. If you stay in the park at least one night before you go up the Cape you will be charged $5 per day to store your van and/or vehicle. If you don't stay here the night before and just want to store, it costs $7 per day. It's a very popular arrangement this time of the year. I've been here for almost a year, and seen lots of comings and goings from the paddock. I don't know of any other parks which do this in Cairns. The only other option would be a storage unit, but I don't know what that costs. Safe and happy travels. Cheers Chris
