On the forum someone mentioned that various states have done away with rego stickers as theynow have new technology for checking rego status was built into every police car and at static points at road blocks and they can run a check as they drive passed you .
Given that not all states have done away with rego stickers how do interstate vehicles get checked with this new method . We could have many more unregistered vehicles out there without any insurance than we think.
I wouldn't dare suggest in my wildest dreams that state governments are smart enough to have a full on integrated vehicle data base shared between each other , that's just to much to comprehend in this 21st century.

hi wombat. vic, nsw, and queensland. the police can get your rego, licence details instantly. if your licence is current, and how many points you still have. the 14 towers that the rta in nsw have over the highways, take infa red photos of all vechicles, over car size. they can then plot, how far you have driven, and at what speeds you are averging. ( motorhomes now have to go into there weighbridge stations, they can check your licence, rego, and if the vechile is roadworthy.) these towers are now connected to the south australian towers,so the highway patrol and the rta, have a pretty good idea on everyones details.
Kenmarg are right on the money. The RTA has your details, instantly.
While it is early days, the system is being brought on slowly. Right now, the overhead units, targets trucks. It has the capacity and ability to do all.
I have "insider" info, that I will back, that another system is "inplace", that is the next level. They are using "Trucking" as the platform for both, but have designed it for all.
It will be "big brother" out there, so maybe the cowboys will stay away. All makes sense, as they save the cost of "random" checks. It will be automatic. Maybe it will reduce those that should not be there, but it will make them money.
WA is in the process of doing away with the rego stickers, the police already have the capacity to check all your details etc, and I think all the States have a link up with each others rego's etc.
What worries me, is that when driving in another state you are bound to follow that states road rules and laws. So, say if you are from WA but travelling in another state that requires you to display a rego sticker, will it mean that they can charge you in that other state for not displaying one? We had the WA Police Commissioner on the radio and I rang in and asked him this, he mumbled about it being a question without notice and he would have to look into it, but he assumed you wouldn't be charged because you are from WA and there was not requirement to do so here. Try telling that to a cop in another state that may not know about it and as far as they are concerned you have broken the law in that state.
About time they standardized the road rules and laws in every state.

hi vic if you are travelling in queensland, and you dont have a rego sticker. the police ask for your receipt of rego payement. the highway patrol has the electronic gear in there car, that can tell what your rego status is,whatever state you come from. weather you have any outstanding warrants,in any state. (go straight to jail). until the fine is paid in the state that you were pinched in.
Thanks Greg.......All ready for the beach at Surfers. notice where my hand is, Ha Ha !
Suggested tip: For those states that do away with the rego stickers, if you still have yours on and it is not against the law, then leave it on your car and RV. It shows the month our rego is due, so will act as a visual reminder when travelliing.

I have just returned from the Ingleburn RTA .. As I'm in the process of getting on the road with my own Motorhome, I wanted some clarity on the issue of Motorhomes (travelling in NSW) being required to stop at 'Checking stations' ..
.. with motorhomes in particular, any vehicle with a GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) of 8 tonne and over is required to stop at 'checking stations'
Medium sized vehicles (like Suenami's) are rated around 4 tonne GVM ..
There may be other rules/regulations that may require one to pull over .. but that's as it stands in NSW at the moment on this particular question.
Well ! I'm surprised that at last the various states are attempting to think as one on road rule issues, couldn't happen fast enough. Let hope the one mind they don't follow is NSW when they get it wrong they just write another but don't remove the old one so the rule book rivals War and Peace.
We in NSW still get rego stickers and for a state that's so broke it would have been a good saving to drop them altogether and put it into road repair

and it costs more than War and Peace too. As for putting any savings into road repairs........you have to be joking, they would find something else to spend the surplus on............that's if we ever get back to having a surplus. Stop bitching Ma....LOL
