Wow! My First ever Free Camp...

Hi everyone, I talked to a solo nomad for 10 mins as I was leaving Newman for Meekarratha WA. (he had passed me several times since Katherine in NT. Got to Meekarratha, had to ring Telstra to find out the name of the park I stayed at (don't laugh), rang them and asked them to give a message to the fifth wheeler on site 23. Which they did and he rang me. Consequently I drove back to Newman and have tagged along for three days now. After Newman we camped at Bea Bea , 585 in Camps 5. Well it was great. My batteries didn't flatten and the Fiat started as normal in the morning. I was thrilled. I'm literally just tagging along. But i'm getting to see places I don't think I'd be game enough to do on my own. In Roebouren tonight but tomorrow two nights at Clearville Beach No.508 in the book. I think I can do two nights - Battery wise) but this fellow has a Honda generator if something goes wrong. Steve is an fellow member of the CMCA and belongs to the Solo Chapter (about 3000). He's teaching me heaps (about my vehicle - you skeptical lot) and has a dirty big 5th wheeler towed by a Ford F250. He's a DVA pensioner, (army) and is helping me with work out rent assistance from Centrelink).

But the phone call to him was only after ringing about a Help wanted ad on this website for a teacher/teacher's aid for a 5 and 7-yr-old with their school of air lessons. 160k south of Carnarvon. I had been looking at it for months now. The woman I spoke to sounded impressed with my age and experience but more so for the admin/bookkeeping/accounts experience. I will meet with Chris (her name) 2nd week September. I am so excited. To think I had to travel from east coast to west coast to find some sort of work....and for the first time it is really nice to have someone to travel with. Just filling in time till Sept...but how pleasant...cheers, Suebiggrin

You sneaky girl you. Good for you to find a travel ally.
I think you'll enjoy the Carnarvon region, and a job out there will be a bonus.
I think I'll head west whenever I get loose from Cairns, but I have to "call in" to see the kids first at Christmas.
As you go on you'll get more confidence in your vehicle and your ability to operate it to its full potential. And to have a tagalong coach is a bonus. Just enjoy. Cheers Chris

hi sue.     he sounds like a nice bloke.    free camping is the way to go,you do meet some terrific people.     does your motorholme have any solar panels.  ( this does make you very inderpendant.  a generator is good for a back up,but they do make a bit of noise )    things that you wouldn't think you could do,  has been opened up to you since you bought your motorholme.    life is just great

Dave, how can you have an ugly dial? All men look the same to me. (lovely that is). You're the best opposite sex us girls have - in shades of Mae West "I never met a man I didn't like"..well, maybe once but i can't remember who it was....

Kenmarg, thats the next step. This thing is wired for solar but I can get my head around a generator more easily.

We are at Cleaverville Beach for four nights (near Karratha) and it's just magic. I watched to sun set on the Indian Ocean - beautiful!. No power or water but dump points and seven bucks a night. This is night one. Think I can only get two nights with the house batteries. But itwill be a good test. Might even get three. Beats the hell out of a c/p with all their rules. It really does open up a new world. A balmy 24 degrees - gotta go there's stars out there to see....This is by far the thing I've done...guess  I just needed someone to do it with....cheerssmile

hi sue.        with the size of that roof on your motorholme,it would be easy to set up a solar system.     all the winging wowser's you get complaining about the noise of your generator, beeing a single lady on your own you dont need this.       with a good solar system we had on our newlands van we could last for 7-8 days ( even when the weather is overcaste )    and my wife is allways cooking something on the electric stove.     to my way of thinking the only thing a caravan park has that i need is electricety.
