new addition to gps

I dont normally advertise one thing over another but this I gotta tell you about

I recently upgraded my old gps (it died in echuca)

I purchased a garmin nuvi 760 off ebay (got it cheap because its last years model, doesnt matter because I got all the latest updates off the garmin website to bring it right up to date), I was noodling around on the camps australia wide website checking updates when I came across this

http://www.campsaustraliawide.com/index.php?page=6

now what this is simply a downloadable program that camps has put together with http://www.gpsoz.com.au/  (gpsoz) to come up with a camp log that can be navigated to by your gps

put simply it is camps australia wide 5 placed on your gps, just navigate to the position you are in and poke in "campsites" and it will take you to the nearest free or low cost camp anywhere in australia

it costs $20 if you have purchased either camps 4 or 5, but is worth every cent

You're doing better than I am.
I have a Tom Tom 1 and I've tried numerous times to update via internet, but the updates aren't available in Oz. Boy, am I disappointed about it!
So I'm stuck with a GPS I can't bring up to speed on new routes, motorways etc.
Does anyone have more recent infor on updating the Tom Tom?
Cheers Chris

My other half updates our TomTom all the time. I will see if he can add to this discussion on how he does ours.

That sounds brilliant with the GPS Camps 5, will certainly look at that.

Hi Linda, I got it up and working and yep without trying to sound like a salesman it is brilliant, it has all states and territorys in it, best twenty bucks I have spent in a long time

just arrive at an area, have a look at the camps book, like a site, poke it in the gps and it will take you straight there, I absolutely love it, with the two teamed together, I reckon I cant lose

the guys at gpsoz were great with me, I didnt have a clue as to what I was doing (old Dave isnt a technogeek) so after about 5 emails backwards and forwards I rang the fellers, I spoke to Brian and he had me up and running in about three minutes, nothing was any trouble with them

Great stuff, good to see that it can be solved with real people. smile

We don't go away again now till next year so we will not update our Camps book until then. I do think its a brilliant idea though, I forget a lot of the great little spots we stayed at on our last jaunt.

apparently it is very easy to setup your own "points of interest" file, I havent tried it yet but I have downloaded the software to do it, so it's just a matter of time

in this poi file (made up by yourself) you can easily save all the "special" little spots, I just keep a "little black book" with gps positions on it by a state by state basis

but also having the camps 5 on gps has made it a lot easier
