The Kwinana Freeway extension from Perth to Bunbury is opening on 20.9.2009 for anyone wishing to cut some time off their trip down south, see link;

As we live in Bunbury we have been looking forward to the completion of this project for soooo long.

The Kwinanna Freeway extension which becomes Forrest Highway at Pinjarra Rd (Yunderup Bridge) will save us at least 30 minutes each way on a trip to Perth and cuts out a bunch of traffic lights and peak hour traffic.

I have been up that road every day this week and to say it is frustrating to see the road, still barricaded until next Sunday is a gross understatement. lol

It surely is a major project which will be completed a couple months ahead of schedule.

Neil.

It'll be a boon for us "scenic route" travellers, giving us a respite from the people "..Making hurry down the street.."

Hi Vic,

I am not sure exactly but I took this 'grab' from the website you posted above  "

The Project includes:

  • 6 interchanges
  • 10 intersections
  • 19 bridges
  • 32 km of principal shared path for pedestrians and cyclists
  • 7 pedestrian and cyclist underpasses
  • 14 fauna underpasses  "
As the new road is Freeway to Pinjarra Rd and Highway from there to Bunbury I would assume the 6 interchanges would be on the freeway and the 10 intersections will be south of Pinjarra Road.

I will count them next week and let you know.  lol

Thanks Stefan,

Appreciated, I like the scenery on the old road via Pinjarra, and if I had the time would still travel that, I would imagine truckies may now use the new road to hasten their deliveries to Bunbury and elsewhere, so may make the old Road (and the coast road) more enjoyable for tourists and other road users (ie; less traffic like Rolly said).
